Tale of man growing up from his 70's childhood to today via China. Great quote in the book and "getting out of the right/wrong way of thinking". Very Good.

reading it at the moment and can't put it down. A step back in time. I laughed when one of the characters ate his first kebab! Bought back memories. Sad in places, great story line so far and can't wait to find out what's going to happen next!

Focuses on 3 peroids of a the books main character Joe's life. Starting with the end of his school days the punk scene,the politics and run in with rival gangs One of which ends up affecting him in a big way Next we skip foward 10 or so years and find Joe on a train trip returning from Far East after spending the last decade or so travelling in the area. On this long trip Joe boredom forces him to look back and revaluate his past present and future. Part three brings us up to the recent past in the year 2000. Joe is back living in Slough he is now more worldly wise. And is forced to deal with the rproblems which were the main reason for his departure to the far east.

A must for eveyone that grew up in the UK in the Eighties, and quite possibly John King's best book.

The first section in the 70's is good, but the rest of it dragged on and on to a somewhat rushed ending. Gets rather repetitive: "chips... lager... wanker... chips... punk rock... tea... curry... chips... lager... punk rock... chips... curry... lager... tea...", you get the idea. Not the worst book, but could have benefited from a good editor.

Good read, the author is so economical with his words that it's a quick, interesting read. The main character hit home with me. Human, indeed. Makes me want to drink beer and listen to records with John King!
