Man ist ohnmächtig und leidet mit jeder Faser mit! Bei der anschliessende Rache können manche mit und manche nicht - sofern ich es selbst nicht machen muss verstehen kann ichs ein wenig!
Ein Meisterwerk!!!!!

The bad ending is a real shame, otherwise highly enjoyable.

It's full of all the smart quotations and references that Stephen Fry is known for, but somehow it seems a bit predictable and empty. Whoever could have seen him writing about public school boys...admittedly in a rather intriguing scenario, but a little too on the soulless, predictable crime thriller side.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.......and Stephen Fry serves it up on a bed of crushed ice.

Spellbinding. A little slow to start, but once the story started to "twist" I simply could NOT put it down. Quite literally; I am writing this after reading the last four fifths of the book in one sitting and having had NO sleep. Better than "Making History" by far (and don't get me wrong, I loved that as well) simply on the "page-turniness" of the damn thing!

Fantastic! Really got me reading at every single snatched moment; on breaks at work, on the toilet, on the tube - anywhere and at anytime possible! I haven't read The Count of Monte Christo but don't feel like I'm missing out on anything or not able to fully appreciate a homage/reworking. I'm gutted I've now read all his fiction back catalogue, but I own it all, so can enjoy them all again some time in the future...

I'm irreversibly addicted to the writings of Stephen Fry. I still cannot shake the impact of "The Liar", his first novel, on my outlook on life and myself. The "tennis balls" managed to keep me reading even after I had finished book, since it amazed me, once more, to find a brilliant and restless intellect containing his torrent of wit within a plot, and coming out looking like a million bucks...........

A quick and pleasant read. The writing is fluid and the book has a number of very funny passages. Overall, however, it was darker than I expected (compared with The Liar).

dieses buch machte stephen fry zu einem meiner lieblingsautoren: klug, witzig, voll bösen ideen und schwarzem humor, schräge und überraschende wendungen, gewandt im ausdruck, fesselnd zu lesen

Even though it's the same story as "the count of Monte Cristo" is exiciting and worth reading it. Since the story is set today, it shows that Dumas' book is timeless.

Stephen Fry does it again, this time with a modern, British interpretation of The COunt Of Monte Cristo. Very enjoyable.

Bought a book and it has a spoler at the back by Literary Review. Yes, it basicly a rewritten The count of Monte Cristo. But still, it got me hooked so much, then I read it one day. And re-read some parts on the next. Eaven knowing how it will end, it was well worth the read.
