A very good story about a man in London who is very intelligent, but very lazy. He does want to be left alone but is drawn into events by others. The development of the lead character Jack is done very well. Some of the events do need a leap of faith.

There are so many witty conversations in the "Under the Net". I love the way Murdoch discuss the "communication" subject. A very nice book!

Read it. Think about it. There are many layers here, you just have to think about it. And that goes for all Iris Murdoch.

Mrs Tinckham makes it for me. She's not only a relief for Jake but a relief in the narrative with her glorious smoke-filled shop, full of cats, a veritable retreat. I always love Murdoch's choice of names... Sadie and Anna Quentin, perfect, and Hugo. She always chooses such wonderful names.
