Wow. The best novel ever written or that ever will be written in my lifetime or yours. If you haven't read it, you must. I'm not sure which drugs Ken Kesey was doing while writing this, but whatever they were, give me some of those.

Not an easy book to read, maybe because Kesey was tripping while writing, but the use of the English language is amazing and worth the pain.

An enjoyable look at the psychology of a Pacific Northwest logging town in the 1960's. Kesey uses a most unusual style, going without warning from third person, to first person, to various other first person accounts... he even drops in an unrelated anecdote as the author from his days in the nuthouse. It can become exhausting to follow at times, but is a rewarding read...

Quite an odd story from an odd writer. Some find this book difficult to read but I feel it is worth it. I enjoy Kesey's writing style.

At first it was difficult to get into, there's a lot of stream of consciousness, but eventually I became absorbed by it. I read it years ago, and it remains an all-time fav.

The title comes from the song Good Night Irene and it refers, in dramatic Irony, to the contemplation of suicide that the main character has just attempted. It is the camus theme that the biggest decision you make everyday is the one not to kill yourself. He avoids the didactic while writing a tome that is the anthem and ode to the logger making it the Moby Dick of The Northwest.

Tough read, but really interesting family story. I'm enjoying it so far, and I don't know what is going to happen next.
