Short vignettes from a community who settles in a valley in California. Typical Steinbeck stuff. If nothing else read the story about Junius Maltby.

beautiful short stories set in the area of Cali I just visited. His characters are so rich and he describes the land in a way you can see it yourself. Beautiful writing.

Excellent, considering these stories were written very early in Steinbeck's career. Definitely worth reading--this whacked-out community ain't nothing like heaven. These interconnected short stories about a community that's less than perfect are quite good, considering Steinbeck wrote them early in his career.

Lesser known work by Steinbeck. A friend turned me back on to Steinbeck with this novel. I was not a fan until I read Pastures of Heaven. Quirky text -- good stuff!!

this was a really good read very depressing stories though. it is a really good read so far This book was really good i would suggest it to anyone but it is depressing because all of the stories are depressing.
