A great book for farmers, I always think of this book when nature takes over and I realize I'm not in control.

As always, Steinbeck is brilliantly poignant in his naturally understated way.

this is an incredibly ambitious work by steinbeck. i was wholly impressed with the depth of this seemingly simple story. joseph's struggle with his personal beliefs and with those around him culminates into an incredible climactic ending wihch left me stunned and saddened, and quietly appreciative of this work of art.
this book reminded me why i love steinbeck so much. i love its blasphemy and heart and the honesty he portrays (as always) in the struggles of the characters to define themselves and those around them.

One of Steinbeck's earliest books, in fact, his second, if I read correctly, It is a beautiful window into what this man was going to be able to accomplish with his following books. In this book he elegantly shows his vision of how land, man, and God are all intertwined in some fashion, in some way. It was an amazing book.

I didn\'t know what to expect from this book, and was not let down at all! This man, John Steinbeck, can make you feel amazingly deep emotions, and question creation and the meaning of life itself just by describing a natural spring flowing from a big rock in the middle of a pine forest.

No a čo je podstatné, tomuto dielku nechýba pár prekvapivých momentov, ktoré ma dokázali udržaÅ¥ "at the book":) Takže, aby som to zhrnula, celkový dojem z knihy je výborný.

This book brought really raw emotiions in me. The core of some very interal thoughts that as most of you said "you don\'t know how to explain." Steinbeck gets to that core.

One of my all-time favorite books. A beautifully written, mythological book. He has better-known novels, but this one is the reason I first fell in love with Steinbeck.
