I wanted to finish this because I love Fitzgerald, but I just had to move on. It's too choppy and not really my style of a "novel."

My #1 favorite book in the world, it is a perfect disection of youthful arrogance and immaturity. This book describes every young man in his pre and post colegiate years. The chapter about Amory Blaine's stay in rural Maryland set the tone for my own views on the poetry of teen love. A thunderstorm, a haystack, "Ulalume" and a green eyed beauty. It is the single chapter in all of literature that speaks to me more than any other. My favorite book of all time

it feels pasted together in a lot of ways, but wow, what a great book. i like writers' books when you can see they still make mistakes but they obviously have potential. the moment you're like, "wow, this person is going to be a good deal" knowing the follow up novel will be amazing i.e. invisible monsters to fight club, and this to the great gatsby, etc.
