Great survey of the Russian effort in WWII. Was sad to see that the the drawn out battle for the Crimerian was notcovered more in depth, but still worth reading.

The best overview of Nazi Germany and Sovietic Union conflict I've ever read. Clarifies and horrorifies, it's analytical and soul wrenching on the same measures... If you must read just one book about WWII on East Front, this is the book

A magisterial one-volume history of the most titanic and grueling struggle in military history. Stalin was paranoid and whack, but he eventually listened to his generals -in a sense the Great Patriotic War only interrupted The Terror! Slaughter and tragedy on a grand scale. With tanks. Lots and lots of tanks!

Honest portrayal of the dynamics, stories, and statistics behind the conflict. Emphasizes the fact that Russian's fight against the Germans was the most significant and bloody than any conflict before known. Downplays the western perception that the "Allies" Britain and US won the war and were significant players, though gives them major credit for supporting the Soviet Red Army. Discusses events leading up to, during, and the final years as well as the resulting dynamics between the new superpowers.
