This was late 19th century and a wage was made on a journey around the earth in 80 days. And a hundred years later, the world has shrunk so much that in 80 hours, a couple of rounds can easily be made. Good concept and great but brief description of all the places visited by Phileas Fogg make it a good read.

This is one of the most envigerating books I have ever read. Philease fogs, seemingly nieve yet composed, patient and assertive disposition makes this book a delitfule read.

I cannot believe I never read this book before now, but what a fabulous piece of work. Jules Verne really invites you into the characters of the book and it races along as Mr. Fogg tries to win his bet of travelling around the world. Extremely worth the read (more than once!!)

It is a very adventurous book filled with excitement, suspense and perhaps a bit of humour. It is also absed on ambition and money. It is based on a challenge of completing a world tour in eighty days. This challenge is excepted by Phileas Fogg and he faces a lot of mishaps while travelling around the world. Will he win the challenge or not? The book is all about that...!

There is a reason this is considered a classic. Part adventure, part travelogue, part historical novel, the characters and adventures they have are truly entertaining. Just wish they wouldn't put an air balloon on the cover, because it is never once used as a means of transportation!

It's a classic, and it's also a good illustration of the sensibility of the time, the rationalist view that the world can be planned and engineered for humanity's purposes. Granted there are wrinkles aplenty caused by the clash of West and East (entering a holy place with shoes on, burning widows, opium dens, etc.), but it's always clear who will triumph. Verne is generous enough to include a hint throughout of how the twist at the end will be resolved. Not one to put at the top of the reading list, but definitely one that fits easily on the "good books" list.

Around the World in Eighty Days is, as my profile states, one of my favourite books. The principal reason for this is its protagonist, Phileas Fogg. It is a character whose machine-like qualities I admire and would like to imbibe in myself, especially the ones mentioned in the first three chapters. That is why these are the chapters I return to time and again to lose myself in the description of this Victorian machine of a man.I must confess that in my fawning over Fogg, I have forgotten about the rest of the book, which is a good adventure, interesting enough to keep you turning the pages and not taxing enough to make you regret it. The other characters in the book serve their purpose well, Passepartout the loyal side-kick, Aouda the damsel in distress, and Fix the irritating obstacle, of sorts.So, if you look for the same things in a book that I do, go and buy this book now and finish it immediately because you will not regret it.

Completely enjoyed this escape from reality! I don't know why it has taken me so many years to finally read Around the World in 80 Days. Much simpler in text than I imagined, the story is delightful and engaging.

Wasn't at all what I expected. Was generally aware of the plot, but had never seen a film adaptation. The chapters are short, and the momentum builds quickly. The characters are at once engrossing and entertaining. Ending was a peach.

you can't help but get swept up in the story. the classic relaxed writing style, along with an adventurous plot keeps you amused. Read the first 3 chapters, and tell me you don't find this urge to keep on reading. for some odd reason before reading the book, i thought this story had something to do with flying in a hot air balloon. i wonder why...

This is one book I've read before but I don't mind reading it over and over again, for the sheer simplicity of the story and the simple plot. Jules Verne certainly knew how to keep people engrossed.

"What had he really gained by all this trouble? What had he brought back from his long and weary journey? Nothing, say you? Perhaps so; nothing by t a charming woman, who, strange as it may appear, made him the happiest of men! Truly, would you not for less than that make the tour around the world." Entertaining book. Verne is so precise in all his details, that he clearly gives a view of every landscape and allows the reader to feel as though one is there. It was a very good adventure book!
