A good read. Sound epistemology: dualist. He is the one who said "I think therefore I am". Many philosophers still debate his work and feel that they have to overthrow his notions about soul and body; very few, if any, have credible arguments that prove him wrong.

Of course I can't justify anything below a 5-star for Descartes' work; I can, however, question the selections of the author of this compilation: Cotting, what the hell? Why exactly did you choose what you did? What the hell is the value of including Descartes' exploration into Optics in a philosophical compilation? None! Especially when you don't even transition them into one another.. Blah.. but other than that the selections seemed fairly justified.
