This is a great read for anyone interested about the history of retail and the arrivals of shopping malls in our lives. Apart from that, the story of Denise is a good wake-up call and even though Zola sticked to his style, the story ends in a more positive note than usual.

aka "Ladies' Paradise". About a big French dept store in the 1880s. Vivid descriptions of fashion, fabric & lace. LOVE it.

Ben Zola, c'est loin d'être aussi méchant qu'on le prétend. La description du Paris fin XIXe est plaisante. L'écriture, fluide et précise rend la lecture distrayante
