A Russian classic from the 19th Century but Pechorin is still recognisable today. A shallow man who wanders through life with no particualr purpose and very few morals. I can think of a few politicians who would fit this description.

I find this book written pretty cinically. I don't like hero's motivations doing things, meeting people and talking with them. I know it's that kind of russian depressive antihero of 19th century but that point of view doesn't talk to me. Some pasages are very well done.

love this book, mostly because this author is from Pyatigorsk, Russia. when i read this it reminds of the great time i had there when I was living there for approx. 2 years.

Hero of Our Time is a short novel by Mikhail Lermontov, written in 1839 and revised in 1841. It is an example of the superfluous man novel, noted for its compelling Byronic hero (or anti-hero) Pechorin and for the beautiful descriptions of the Caucasus.
