Awesome. Deep. Even convicting. His insight into human nature is amazing. Somewhat redemptive at the end, but still sad overall.

Cand am citit romanul in facultate, am crezut ca am citit romanul total, culmea literaturii beletristice, ca nu exista ceva care sa il poata depasi. Bogatia romanului e imensa. Ar trebui sa-l recitesc candva.

Hardly ever do I just pick up a Russian novel; that is why I joined a book study. Hardly ever... no, NEVER do I expect to enjoy a Russian novel. I mean, who can translate over Russian culture and language to the point of enjoyment in English? Not only did the translators do a fantastic job as husband and wife, the story was one that I was fascinated by.
Cons: Although it is a Christian novel, I do not particularly care for swearing. You can't get away with not swearing in such circumstances, so I forgive in this rare case. More importantly is that the author mixes a lot of mysticism with his religion: a very Russian trait, but I don't agree with it. Frankly, that's all for Cons, since I can not knock the author for any wording issues. I would have to be Russian or speak Russian to do that.
Pros: From the very beginning, the author deceptively gives away the entire book's main plot. A murder will happen to a father by one of his sons. The rest of the book, underneath this simple exterior, is a vast argument against the Socialistic mentality that you can some how do a better job at life than if God ran the show. In the first half, he builds up Socialism until it looks as though Christianity is foolish dribble; then he smashes Socialism in half and places Christianity above them. The second half follows each path outside of Christianity and shows where they lead in the long run. From being sent to Siberia, a personal experience of the author, to meeting the devil himself and being driven insane, Christianity is the last "Man" standing as all others fall into darkness, but not without hope of redemption if they too follow in the main character's shoes. A fantastic work of art, Brothers Karamazov will give you a murder mystery, and something far greater: the true way a Christian should live. All Russians suffer, what we suffer for is what makes life bearable, or unbearable. And that is where joy is found even in Siberia.
