Kind of a big downer, but a good read, nonetheless. I love Fitzgerald's language and the scenes he paints; they make me feel like I'm there.

 Two things:
1. There is something unexpected about the level of debauchery described, given that it's set in an era that was in many ways more conservative, proper, mannered, and so forth, than today. Even if I thought I knew that was a party time, I had to raise an eyebrow at some of the depictions of excess.
2. Thanks to the richly observed characters, I really felt this in the last third, to the point of squirming sometimes. Dark.

The writing is brilliant, beautiful, and detailed. It's far too long for the story it's trying to tell, though. It just kind of drags on.

A book that shows the rollar coaster of ruin in a young couple with too much un-earned money and no vision of reality until "reality" comes to them. Not only thoughtful on an emotional level, but on a socio-economic level as well, during the times of war in America.

Great in a depressingly identifiable way. Amazing how little the human condition has changed and how stubborn the sense of American capitalism remains from nearly a century ago.

Very depressing, very shallow but great style. Cool kids, lots of crazy love, and the lowl after high.

Okay,, so it was an excellent read, F.Scott always comes through at the end, but it was still about 80 pages to long..in the middle, the end was brilliant
I like F Scott, but I'm only half way through and I'm already thinking this book is about a hundred pages too long.
