I read this novel in my seventh standard and being a chocolate freak I didn’t just liked the work of Roald Dahl but absolutely loved it.

Roald Dahl has successfully captured all the dreams, imagination and fantasies of childrens, which they possess in early childhood. Story absolutely marvels and stuns the readers at suspense full twist and turns and readers find themselves absolutely glued to book particularly when Charlie’s visit to Mr. Wonka’s Chocolate Factory and event leading him to win the world most best and top ranked chocolate factory run by an unknown specie to the world (Omapa lompas).

This book is definitely worth reading for young childrens who not just dream being into fantasy world in nite but also love craving all kind of sweet chocolate during the day.

When I was growing up, there was Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Gene Wilder’s rendition was entertaining for a kid. However, this Charlie and the Chocolate factory was not only entertainingfor the kids, but also for the adults. The recipe for one great sweet!Mix a screenplay by John August based on the book by Roald Dahl and directed by Tim Burton, acted by a well chosen group of actors who include the charming Johnny Depp and you get a wonderful movie that isn’t just for the kiddo’s, but also for the adults that bring them to see it.As a Mom I’ve been to my share of kid’s movies, most of which I can’t wait to get out of. But this one was delightfully different. This movie was a delicious change from the usual kids movie.Johnny Depp portrays Willy Wonka with a sense of flare and style that only he can provide. Willy in this rendition wasn’t as perfect as the Willy in the old rendition. This Willy walked into walls, missed things and had an attitude! When Johnny Depp was asked why make another Willy and the Chocolate Factory, he stated that this one was different, that is was based on other aspects of the book. And he was right.

Willy Wonka, the eccentric chocolate maker, is opening his doors to five lucky people. There are five Golden Tickets hidden in Wonka chocolate bars and each holder of a Golden Ticket will get a private tour of the factory.

When Charlie Bucket finds a dollar bill in the street, he buys two Wonka's Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delights--even though his family could use the extra dollar for food. Charlie is one of the lucky winners and joins his fellow winners at the chocolate factory the next day. For Charlie, life will never be the same again.

A classic--not to be missed.

What a great book! It's about an poor English boy who wants to win a contest to help his family. Charlie has to eat lots of chocolate bars to try and get a golden ticket and win a contest for a prize, he has no idea what he is to win. This was a book I would read to my children any day.

I love this book. If I need to name a book that changed me most, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory must be the one. (Hmm.... one of the "most") Why? This is the very book that brought me into the world of English book. I still remebered how 'we' met: I was wandering in the library and passed by the English section, there it was, lying at the corner of a bookshelf. If I was taller, I would have missed it (well, believe it or not, I was the shortest girl at primary six). The cover strucked me, may be it was the book's name, may be it was the cute drawing, and I borrowed it and just love it. I love Charlie, he was poor but happy. I love Willy Wonka, he was so nice and so adorable. Then I went for the second book "Charlie and the Glass Elevator"... and went on and on and read a lot of English book since then.

another roald dahl classic.I have long been a great fan of Roald Dahl’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and consider myself a bit of an expert, for I must have read the book ten times, while at the same time eating lots and lots of chocolate bars. This story follows the adventures of excessively poor, but well-loved and level-headed youngster Charlie Bucket, his four grandparents, who take up space in a large bed, and mom and dad who live with him in a ramshackle dwelling on the edge of a London-esque town.

Charlie's journey from a pauper to the owner of the world's best chocolate factory is what every child dreams of (at least the children of my generation, I think). One of my all time favorite books from childhood, every time I read this book I felt an irresistible urge to unwrap a silky chocolate bar and let it satiate all my senses. I loved the movie adaptation of the novel starring Johnny Depp as well.

This story revolves around a boy called Charlie Bucket and the strange happening at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Charlie Bucket is not stronger, faster or better than other children; his family is not rich, powerful, or well connected. But, he was the luckiest boy in the entire world, he just didn't know it yet. He lives next to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory although he is not able to get as many chocolate bars as he wants. His grandparents(particularly Grandpa Joe), are fantastic storytellers and tell him about the chocolate factory and how it was closed and all the workers were fired due to spies. Suddenly Willy Wonka sends five "Golden Tickets" into the world that states that one child will receive a special prize at the end of a tour of the factory, and these are found by Augustus Gloop (a gluttonous chocoholic), Veruca Salt (a spoiled self obsessed brat), Violet Beureguarde (a competitive bubble gum champion), Mike Teavee (an obsessive fan of T.V and violence)and Charlie Bucket (the luckiest boy in the entire world). Four great disasters occur-- 1: Augustus Gloop falls in the chocolate river and is sucked to a place that makes strawberry flavoured chocolate coated fudge. 2: Violet Beureguarde doesn't heed Wonka's warning and eats a three-course dinner thats made into a stick of gum and turns blue and swells like blueberry. 3: Veruca Salt tries to take a squirrel and gets thrown down the garbage chute. 4: Mike Teavee is transported into a T.V in the T.V room. Each of these events is accompanied by a song composed by the Oompa Loompas, and at the end Willy Wonka gives Charlie the prize: ownership of the whole factory.

You won't hear me getting overly negative about the Harry Potter books. If they get people excited about books and reading and they're competently written, I'm fine with them. Let the kids read the Harry Potter. But to me, it's pretty weak tea compared with the books I loved when I was young. Take Roald Dahl, for instance. Dahl could write the red off of Rowling. Most people probably know the story of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" from the loved and lovely Gene Wilder movie or, God help you, the Tim Burton remake. Neither movie strays terribly far from the book though it's a mystery to me why neither version included the "square candies that look round" bit, one of the greatest groan-out-loud puns ever. This omnibus edition includes the sequel, "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator," in which events get even loonier. Willy Wonka is among the great modern avatars of the Trickster tradition. Dahl lays down a kind of anarchic morality in which Wonka flaunts the rules -- societal and natural -- and tweaks the nose of authority, but there is a definite code by which the virtuous are rewarded and the venal become the subject of Oompa Loompa cautionary rhymes. The novels are silly, of course. So are most 10-year-old boys, and Dahl as a storyteller never lost touch with that voice. These books were written in the days before political correctness, so some parts might age worse for some readers than others. The modern tween, teen or twentysomething might sneer at the Dahl books as childish and go back to their Potter/Twilight. But if you're a geezer like me, you've long ago given up any notion of dignity you might have once had, and you feel no qualms about indulging in sheer, delightful goofiness. As Wonka himself says, "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men."

Charlie Bucket is a young boy from a poor family, he lives with his parents and both sets of elderly grandparents. From these four, especially Grandpa Joe, he hears stories about the candymaker Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory he built. As time passed, Wonka began to suspect that spies were stealing his recipes to give to rival firms, so he fired all his workers and announced that he was going out of business forever. The factory has since resumed operations, but the gates are still locked and no one knows who works for Wonka now............

Roald Dahl was my favorite author as a child. This book was one in while I dreamt about, a place where my sweet tooth would have been tickled by many fancies but for myself only to become purple and bloated. This book taught me about self control. Don't touch and it can be yours if you work for it! If not face the consequences. A brilliant book for all ages.

For the first time in a decade, Willy Wonka, the reclusive and eccentric chocolate maker, is opening his doors to the public--well, five members of the public to be exact. The lucky five who find a Golden Ticket in their Wonka chocolate bars will receive a private tour of the factory, given by Mr. Wonka himself. For young Charlie Bucket, this a dream come true. And, when he finds a dollar bill in the street, he can't help but buy two Wonka's Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delights--even though his impoverished family could certainly use the extra dollar for food. But as Charlie unwraps the second chocolate bar, he sees the glimmer of gold just under the wrapper! The very next day, Charlie, along with his unworthy fellow winners Mike Teavee, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Augustus Gloop, steps through the factory gates to discover whether or not the rumors surrounding the Chocolate Factory and its mysterious owner are true. What they find is that the gossip can't compare to the extraordinary truth, and for Charlie, life will never be the same again. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, another unforgettable masterpiece from the legendary Roald Dahl, never fails to delight, thrill, and utterly captivate.

What's better than reading a book that includes a room made of entirely edible materials, square candies that look round, and lickable wallpaper? Absolutely nothing! I've been a fan of this book since elementary school and it's probably the book I read the most often (almost every year). I love the mention of food (even the poor and sad cabbage soup). Plus, as I got older, I was able to understand more of Willy Wonka's jokes because he's actually a sarcastic little fella! Neither movies can compare to the book (though I do like both movies). If you've never read this book ... I don't think I can be your friend ...
