Fantastic, some of Dickens best writing. Consistenly powerful and engrossing from the start to the finish. Though the positive scenes are necessary to balance out the darker parts of the novel, those darker parts are described more forcefully than anything in the book, especially the last chapters on Sikes and Fagin.

I took me a while to get through Oliver Twist, I kept getting distracted and reading something else. However, once I'd got about three-quarters of the way through it, I was hooked and read it through to the end.Like many people, I suspect, I have seen the various film and tv adaptations and believed that I knew the story, but there is so much more in the book that puts the films to shame. I'm so glad that I decided to read this as it just shows what a fabulous writer Dickens was and how good his characterisations were. I loved it - go and read it!

Another or Charles Dickens' great stories. I find his characters so believable, and very well described. This is a story with a sad start but a happy finish.
