this is without any doubt in my mind, one of the best books i have ever read. i was never a big fan of Steinbeck, but i do agree with him. there is one book to a man, and this is definitely his. the writing is superb, in ways that take you back to the beginning of the page you just finished, not for lack of understanding, but to go through the motions again. It is a magnum opus of a novel, beautifully written, and as I am going through the last of it’s pages I am sad, because i will have to eventually get to the end.

One of the best books I've ever read, I would say top 5 for sure. This story follows 2 generations of a family that is "cursed" by the mark of Cain. Compelling read and beautifully written, I couldn't put it down until I finished...and even then I didn't want to.
