I read this entire piece of crap book for a class. James Joyce is a good writer, but is so obsessed with himself that the book should really be entitled, "Look At Me and How Great I Am!!!"

Why be afraid of Nietzsche ? "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" is N's attempt to empower Christianity if not invent a new religion. His insight that we are all creative beings at our best is a central tenet to our daily lives. Tells us what you really think N. No holds barred .

Its good but too long....as for that it quite monotonous..............but it reflects the problems of adolescence period.It is the everybody's story....

This one was a bit long in the beginning. Maybe because I read it during a course and people liked to hear themselves talk when they were interpreting it. It was very interesting though.

I confess, I read this when I waaaay too young to, and am certain I didn't get nearly as much out of it as I would or could today. Still, it was my first introduction to stream of consciousness writing, and I was deeply swept away by the passion invoked by the narrative. I knew I wasn't really understanding the book as I read it, but I couldn't stop reading it. Certain images, like him in the church, still haunt me to this day. I do believe I'll read this again in the future.

Some parts get a little slow, but an incredible read. Especially for a young man like myself! His religious phase and his liking for Aquinas is lost on me, but the big picture stays true.

I cannot say I enjoyed reading this book. However it is an excellant read, if that makes sense. I'm not very familiar with Joyce's work but I got a sense from this book (his first novel I believe) that he had a tendancy toward the darker aspects of life. Not to be read if you are inclined to depression. I also got the sense that he was a very skilled observer of human beahviour and if that is something that interests you then read this book.
