We were going to write a paper on a stereotype and I thought I might wanted to do one about Asians but it turned out I didn't. However, since I had the book, I decided I might as go ahead and read it. I liked it. It was a good book and Amy Tan's a good writer. I did get confused though. I don't think I caught the whole gist of it, possibly because I was impatient and really just wanted to finish it so I could do the things I had to do, but I do recommend it. It's an easy read; the only thing is keep track of who's who.

Gives the reader an understanding of Chinese culture. Wonderful story, albeit frequently quite sad.

I watched this movie about a year ago and really liked it. Recently, I decided to finally pick this book up to read it. Amy Tan did a beautiful job writing this book and was able to really capture the history and lives of the 8 main characters. I especially enjoyed the cross-generational relationships between mother and daughters in the book, especially from a Chinese perspective. The book really shows their bonds and how cross-cultural and cross-generational characteristics affects it. I would recommend reading this book before watching the movie. The movie is also very good and is highly recommended.

I thought this book was very interesting! I think that it has so many interpersonal conflicts in communication and relationships. It really showed me that mothers and daughters can be a lot alike yet very different. I would recommend this book to my friends and family.
