This book was given to me by a dear friend who thought I might like it. I didn't know much about it. I picked it up one evening and stayed up all night readng it. I couldn't put it down. I loved the way the story was written so simply but said so much. I love the scene at the end with the sister and the purple. The movie did not disappoint me at all.

A touching story of faith and love despite the confusion and chaos of life. I especially loved the spiritual exploration of the two sisters' narratives. With a linguistics background, I also appreciated the authenticity of the southern Pidgin speech.

Depressing, kinda boring and a lot confusing in the beginning. I probably should have just watched the movie and I still will. Maybe it will make a bit more sense.
