These were the most depressing stories i have ever read. They all had a great overall meaning and "moral" to the story, but it was so depressing that you don't understand it right away.

An Epic storyline and a beautiful look into Ancient Greek beliefs and psyche; a brilliant piece for interpretation.

The most wonderful opening scene in Western Literature is here: the commencement of the 'Agamemnon' is quite simply breathtaking. As to what happened to the House of Atreus in pages that follow... well. Breathtaking stuff...

It feels sinful to not rate this highly...considering its classicism cred...but really...it was a forced read.

Few authors, whether ancient or modern - with the possible exception of Euripides, have been able to capture the raw emotion that Aeschylus is able to present in the Agamemnon. In this trilogy, Aeschylus unfolds the near timeless dilemma between rage, vengeance, and a stable society. Brilliant.

 "He who learns must suffer
And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget
Falls drop by drop upon the heart,
And in our own despite, against our will,
Comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God."
