Another one of my all time favs. I just love Zora Neal Hurston. It is so much fun to read her books out loud. Her style is like no other. Awsome writer!

This is one of my absolute favorite novels. I assigned it for an anthropology course I taught in World Poverty and Underdevelopment in order to introduce the concept of "auto-ethnography." It was a great success, though many in the class didn't understand the language style Hurston used--and they certainly didn't appreciate her role as one of the greatest American ethnographers of the 20th century (in my humble opinion!).

Loved it- better than what Oprah put together... doesn't even come close the Ms. Hurston writing- when reading this, it's like your are there. I absolutely adore this book.

Not one of my favs. It was good, don't get me wrong. Some good symbolism. Good lessons about finding love. But the sexism in it frustrated me endlessly.

If you read this book and don't underline every other sentence, you need not bother ever reading again. In fact, don't even look for beauty in this world or in a world beyond. All you could ever want to know about life and love and everything in between is found in these 200 pages. "You must go there to know there." Read it. Live it. Go there. Know there.

I truly enjoyed this book. This is a must read! This is a great look at an African American woman's life in the 1930's. She is somewhat of a rebel and it is nice to see how she reacts to the constraints placed on her.

I found this book to be way ahead of its time. It was difficult getting through the dialect but the story was powerful. It was good to see a woman expressing what she wanted in life and going after it.
