Peter Singer uses his utilitarian background to talk about pollution, poverty, and the guilt that resides in each of us unwilling to help. Very engaging read.

Four stars. A fairly good book on current issues concerning globalization. He talks about global warming and how America is the biggest contributor to it. He also talks about the poor and how America gives the lowest percentage of our GDP to the starving people around the world.

At the end, he touches on the idea of a one-world government but he is unsure about whether it would become a tyranny or not.

A very good book but not much of an update from his 'Practical Ethics.' It's a fast read, I got through it in around 4-5 hours.

Peter Singer makes very compelling arguments for morality and ethical considerations in the face of globalization's discontents. His book is concerned with America's place in the world apropos other nations: in issues that affect the entire world, from the atmosphere to international conflict, what is the most ethical thing to do? His writing is more accessible and more practically relevant (and therefore more controversial) than any philosopher out there, and at risk of sounding cliche, he does force you to think. It still isn't enough to overcome the fact that his philosophy is impractical and, because of his strict utilitarianism, completely egalitarian, but anyone interested in America's ethical duty as a nation in an easy read should definitely pick this book up.
