OK - The title is Snuff. It's about the attempt to film the killing of a hooker. And it goes through all the reasons various people might want to see her dead and the reasons she might be willing to do it. It is a very disturbing book. I reluctantly admit I read it and don't openly display it on my bookshelf. But I eagerly recommend it to friends whom I think will get it. It is Chuck Palahniuk's worst book. I recommend it to everyone who loves a wild ride through the weird, insane and totally gross. You got to read it. Keep it in a brown paper bag.

Written from the perspective of three guys and the on-set assistant of a gang-bang porn movie, this is another Palahniuk classic.
Stuffed with trivia on porn and famous actors, this is the story about porn star Cassie Wright, who is way past her prime. With a gang-bang record she wants to jump to immortality. Very short, very surprising - and - not half as gross as I expected it to be (which was a good surprise though ;o)).

Not Palahniuk's best. I liked the way it was told, and it was a fast read, but the story was lacking

This book was thoroughly disappointing. Palahniuk has always been pretty graphic, but unlike most of his books, Snuff (like his previous book, Rant) feels like shock value just for the sake of being shocking. Palahniuk consistently takes the low road in a book that feels hastily constructed at best, with a 'twist' ending that was telegraphed so early it was almost painfully obvious. Palahniuk's usual wit is more caustic than satirical this time around and, aside from a few memorable exchanges between the men in the waiting room, not worth the read.

This is Palahniuk worst book. That's kinda like saying this is Jay-Z's worst album. It's still better than eveything out today it just feels like Palahniuk could have made a better attempt into explaining the pysche of pornstars.

This book was not what I expected. It was quite graphic and there was A LOT of sexual content, but the actual underlying story was pretty intense. Palahniuk is never a disappointment, although you have to be a special breed to not be offended, this was a good read!

It may seem like I'm perverted for reading something this focused on sex. But the truth is, that it's not about sex at all. It only interviews the lives of the people in the novel, sharing their past, present, and future views. I think it's an amazing book, and I never thought it would end up so twisted. But then again, ALL of Chuck Palahniuk's novels are twisted in some way.

Let me start by saying I love Chuck. I Effing LOVE him. But this book? I had a hard time finding that pulling urge to "read read read" that I find in his other works. It is good. I thought that he manipulated the "icky, gross" parts with the genius of utilizing the green room. It didn't take long though to figure out the grand twist, it was painfully obvious, especially if you know Chuck's style. I would say read it, but don't rush out to read it. And don't make this your first Palahniuk book.

Since I love Palaniuk's writing and story telling, I decided to continue on my journey through his books.
When I first started reading Snuff, it had me hooked. I loved the first person narrative and how each person would describe the current events of the story from his and her unique perspective ...my favorite has be #600. The true dead celebrity facts were also hilarious and somewhat sickening, but that's Palanuik.
What I didn't like about the novel was that it started off really good, but ended with a fizzle. Usually Palanuik's denouements are filled with such outrageousness that all I can do is really wish that somthing like that would happen in real life. But alas, the book just ended.

so i figure okay this is the guy that did fight club. optimistic for a great story i buy the book and begin to read. took me two days to finish cause i took my time. thought i was in for a new addiction with this author but that was a no go. as far as substance the book was neither here nor there, the character development lacked majorly. continuity with main plot and sub plots was not happening, as well as narration got very confusing at points through out the story, especially with sheila/wrangler. premise was predictable. plot development lacked majoryly. the only thing i enjoyed from this book was the interesting terms the author used to describe people and actions. and the random movie trivia.

Cassie Wright, an aging porn star has decided to go out with a bang by being the center of the world's largest gang bang. 600 men and one woman to be exact. The story is told from the point of view of Number 600 - the man who got Cassie into porn, Number 72 - a young 20-something who believes himself to be her son, Number 137 - a former TV star looking to jumpstart his career, and Sheila - the stage assistant and Cassie's "handler".

You'd think that after reading all of his other novels that I would have learned by now that the seemingly obvious resolution you see coming halfway through the book isn't the actual resolution but you'd be wrong. I thought I had it all figured out then it turns out I could not have been more wrong. Oh well.

Not his best effort but I was entertained nonetheless.

I wanted to love this book because the cover was so pretty, but the beginning especially seemed more about shock-value and less about content and character development. Then again, to give Chuck some credit, a Gang-Bang Porno has got to be a challenging literary topic.

"You Kill her?"
"Or worse....did you say you loved her?"

P.S. I had to do a lot of fact-checking on the internet, especially during the "Shelia" sections and everything I checked was true...according to Wikipedia

Not Chuck's best work, but still entertaining nonetheless. Unlike Fight Club's narrator or Choke's Mancini, the depravity of Snuff's characters does not meet with even the slightest redemption. Plus, I don't much fancy Palahniuk as a character piece writer. He works much better at telling a story through his character's actions. I would definitely recommend Fight Club & Choke to CP newcomers, but this is an adequate addition to the library for any fan of his.

This book was like watching an accident. You just can't look away even if you want to. I'm not talking about the simple accident like the old lady who is about to get decapitated by driving her car under a semi-trailer. I'm talking about an accident like a dozen nuns escorting 40 pre-schoolers across the street and the big piece of farm equipment that cuts hay and then bales it is about to mow them down. But there's a twist - it's not pre-schoolers about to be made into bales - it's disabled midgets. Either way it doesn't matter because it's messy and gross.

this book was hard to enter into, as with many of chuck palahniuk's books and I found that it never had that spark or hint of things to come to keep in interested as his earlier works contained. In the end I never completed the book which is saying a lot since I think he is one of the most important writers of the late 20th century. Sadly I have yet to see him move effectively into the 21st.

Prior to buying this book, I saw a review that proclaimed Chuck Palahniuk and Pornography being the ultimate fictional partnership. I disagree; although an entertaining read, the end was slightly predictable and a little dissatisfying. A good Palahniuk is hard to put down for fear that the next chapter will be even better, but not in this case. Not one of his best, yet not his worst either.

Palahniuk is clearly preoccupied in writing stuff which is desgined to provoke a strong response but, however receptive you are to this sort of provocation, this really is a bloody clever piece of writing.

Uno de los peores libros de Palahniuk. Si no existiera Rant, sería el peor sin duda. Parece que se le ha apagado esa brillantez que tenía y se ha quedado solo con el lado más bestia y provocador. Una pena.

A porn star attempts to break a world record by fornicating with 600 men in a porn film. Told largely from the perspective of three participants, all whom have a relation with the porn star, Chuck Palahniuk weaves a twisted story of satire, porn and crime, sprinkling it with pop culture tidbits. Seriously, I didn't know there were so many ways to describe a wanker!

I am glad to see Chuck going back to his darker roots - I felt he strayed away from it with Diary, then went too deep with Haunted, but with Rant and Snuff he is headed in the right direction. The book was too brief for me and in all honesty it was very predictable which is a first for me when reading Chuck. I still enjoyed it immensely, such a clever tale surrounding porn and Chuck really outdid himself with the "fun facts" in each section. Thank you Chuck

You can't say that Chuck Palahniuk lacks imagination: every one of his books I've read thus far are so off the wall and different. "Snuff" is no exception; how about a story involving a woman going after the most sex acts in one movie (600) and how the movie turns into a "snuff film"? What his point was I really don't know, nor necessarily do I care...his prose is good enough that he could probably find the most mundane subject and make it interesting. "Snuff" loses steam and gets repetitive after about the 50-page mark, but fortunately the book is less than 200 pages long, so you're probably not going to get bored reading about the ins and outs of the porn trade, but it still gets a little tiring seeing how many cutesy faux porn titles he can come up with, like "The Ass Menagerie" and "Catch Her in the Eye".
