A typical Dave Barry book. I was laughing out loud while I read it and now all of my coworkers think I'm even more crazy than they knew I was before. Also, moose. Indian.

People who turn to this book for actual advice on investments or tax preparation will find themselves broke (and possibly indicted). People who turn to the book for a few laughs will find themselves pretty well satisfied.

Barry's book lampoons the entire economic system, with chapter titles like "How Money Works (Or: Everybody Clap for Tinker Bell!)" and "Planning For Your Retirement (The Financial Advantages of Early Death)", and tackling every topic in-between. How do you provide for your child's college education? Encourage low grades and get them into the school with the longest name. Want to start your own business? Use the stupidity of the bottled water industry as your template.

Barry similarly tackles subjects like running your own business, investing in the stock market, buying a home and saving money while traveling. With advice like gathering information on the best performing stocks of the last 25 years and then building a time machine to go back and invest in them, it's not a book that will make you rich... but it will make you laugh.

While Barry's fiction is entertaining and fun, pure humor is where he made his mark, and where he really shines. While this isn't quite as good as some of his greatest works, like "Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys," it outshines some of his other recent efforts ("Dave Barry Hits Below the Beltway," for instance). Bottom line - if you're a fan of Dave Barry, this book will make you laugh. If you've ever dealt with money and you still have a sense of humor about it, this book will make you laugh too.

Dave Barry has remained consistently funny for a quarter-century. Most of the jokes in this book are at least mildly amusing, and Barry's takedowns of Donald Trump and Suze Orman are priceless.

A collection of Dave Barry rants. Some pretty funny, not necessarily related to the title of the book, but who cares? I particularly liked his rant about Glinda, the so-called "Good" Witch of the wizard of Oz. Or should that be "Bitch"? I still don't know why there is a giant eyeball on the dollar. I know the Illuminati put it there, but why ?? 3 stars

I love Dave Barry. This book is fairly typical of his themed books; it's a loose collection of sardonic material, some of which has been published in his column before. I prefer the column collections, but he's funny in pretty much any context.

I read this book cover to cover in one day when it first came out in 2006, and picked it up again as a book-between-books . . . a kind of mental palate-cleansing. The first time I read it, I thought it was hysterically funny and I was laughing out loud all the way through. This time, it only inspired a few giggles. I still think Dave Barry's great, but I think what's changed in the past three years or so is that descriptions which then seemed so outrageously over the top as to be laugh-out-loud funny now seem, well, sadly on the money, so to speak.

Over the years we have come to expect from Dave Berry some of the finniest prose in the English language, and this book does not disappoint. He has an incredible skill at turning even the most boring subject matter into something that we can laugh at with reckless abandon. In the "Money Secrets" he takes on the whole genre of self-help financial advice books and their self-appointed gurus. Two people who are particularly in his crosshairs this time around are Suze Orman and Donald Trump. By the end of the book you will not be able to look at these two with any level of seriousness (if you were ever able to do it in the first place that is).

What is particularly disarming about this book is the vintage Dave Berry turn of phrase and the creation of ridiculous ideas out of the most ordinary circumstances. His skill at it makes it seem incredibly easy to write humor for living, but we would be well advised not to try it on our own. Humor of this caliber is best left to the professionals, and we are fortunate enough that Dave keeps coming up with book as often as he does.

Be warned that while reading this book you will break out into fits of uncontrollable laughter which will leave all those around you perplexed and maybe even worried for your mental state of mind. It's best to read Dave Barry alone while no one is watching.
