I always like Alice Hoffman. This book was a little more difficult than here usual, I wanted to go back and read it a second time to see how everyone fit together (the book is three stories linked together through time).

I was really looking forward to reading this, yet was disappointed. The three interlocking stories seemed unrealistic; the characters were inconsistent, yet I still found it to be a bit of a page turner.

It was memorable, but I guess I didn't really see the point of the entire story... or maybe I just couldn't relate to the characters. It was also pretty slow for the first 2/3 of the book.

Hoffman is a writer of her own making... almost a stream of conciousness read as you have no real chapters, just manuever through the drama in the lives of three women. There is an eerie but alluring concept of a Third Angel that is in the midst of us... beyond the Angel of Life and the Angel of Death. Because it wasn't divided up well, it was harder to read but it was a nearly beautifully written book.

Uneven, but worth sticking with it. I would find myself bored with a storyline, and fed up with the characters, and then 20 pages later I would be moved to tears by a turn of events and some of the finest writing I've encountered. In the end, this will be a book I will keep on my shelf, to read certain passages over and over again, but I almost didn't make the effort to get passed the first 50 pages.
