Dan Brown's best. Has all the elements of a thriller plus. Brown did some research on this one. The only problem is that he used dubious sources. Nevertheless, it was published as a work of fiction and artistic lisence is allowed!

This book however revised the reputation of Mary Magdelene form prostitute to the wife of Christ and the mother of his child. Here the Holy Grail is transformned into the living bloodline of Christ.

Brown has taken off from the legitimate theory that Mary Magdelene was not a whore, as the medieval church painted her, but a true beloved companion and disciple of Christ the man. But the idea that there is a living bloodline is a step into a fantasy cooked up in the south of France.

Read, think, enjoy!

The problem with this book is the falsehoods involved. For example, Dan Brown's claims that the Gnostic literature from the 3rd century depicts Jesus as being very human rather than divine when the opposite is true. The Gnostic gospels depict Jesus as a child turning playmates to stone because they displeased him and being pure spirit who only appeared to have a human body.

When the author is willing to distort facts to support his case, its hard to accept his basic premise as fact.

I sat in Kinokuniya KLCC one day waiting for my friend. I grabbed this book, and the next thing I knew, I found myself wishing my friend never arrived so I could finish this book. There were so much wonders, true or false, brilliantly put into picture. It was a collage of interesting facts, concepts and humanly questions which stirred some deep thoughts. Amazing. To believe or to not believe what the book contained is as subjective as one's choice to choose the meal to be set forth on his dining table. I can't stop bemusing on the ability of Dan brown to retain all these information and put them all into chronology, to produce this awesome book.

I really enjoyed this book; although a little slow in some places. Regardless, I give it a thumbs-up simply because I find the subject material riveting.

Thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook. Controversial though it may be, it was an exciting page turner that weaved history and conspiratorial theory into a believable yarn - provided of course that you don't take it too seriously. I'm sure it did portray the Catholic church and Opus Dei unfairly, and that it won't hold up to serious historical scrutiny. But it all really misses the point. It's fiction. It was fun, and I found that it actually inspired me to find out more about a topic which I have never traditionally followed.

This is the perfect airplane book. Quick and easy, clever enough to hold your interest and kill the boredom while gate waiting; it was also great at blocking out screaming babies and cranky flight crew. I polished it off between IAD and LAX, so it's about a four hour read.

I wasn't offended by the book's premise, but neither did I take it seriously. Dan Brown is not a theologian, and his story is entertainment, not doctrine. However, if you're touchy about religious issues or apologetics, I'd skip it.

Great book! I only wish it hadn't taken me so long to get around to reading it. MUCH better than the movie. Being a history buff (particularly of Leonardo's time) I loved the art and history details as well as the hypotheses on the real story of Jesus and the church. Makes me want to go back and study humanities! A fantastic, quick read! As a result, I just started Angels and Demons and have already ordered Brown's sequel to Da Vinci Code which hits book stores September 15th!

Read this immediately after finishing Angels and Demons and I think this was a mistake as it was very much along the same lines. I know it is considered to be the sequel but it wasn't tied in enough to make the connection although the story followed the same style and had the same character interaction and end result. Still after all I had read about the two books I enjoyed them as holiday reads and would recommend them to those who enjoy a page turner.

This poorly researched and poorly written fantastical story is saved only by its (rather old) literary device which manages to keep you into the story solely by hooks at the end of each chapter drawing you into one more chapter of the rubbish.

If it wasn't for Dan Brown actually believing the tripe he dumps into these novels the ahistorical and unbelievable leaps of logic and unending contradictions wouldn't be nearly as bothersome -- it'd just be yet another poorly written story.

Sadly it is not, and people who have never bothered to actually take the time to learn history - particularly from reading original source materials - are taken in by his laughable claims regarding his knowledge and research.

Imagine if someone wrote a book about U.S. History and U.S. government who claimed it was based on real historical truth, but his only actual sources were clearly conspiracy theorists, illuminati types, and maybe watching national treasure a half a dozen times, plus a few hours of the "history" channel. If you applied that same sort of research effort to church history - you'd have this book.

This is a novel of breathtaking quality and mind-blowing sophistication. Quite simply: brilliant! Dan Brown weaves historical facts and architectural and religious wonders into a hard-hitting, fast-moving story, with twists at every turn. I simply cannot believe anyone who claims to have figured out the ending of this book before the last chapter.
I won't rehash the story line, but will say that for anyone looking for a fantastic, fascinating story, this book is a must-read. It is not a reference text, so those who are concerned with cross-checking every little detail of the story would do better to simply go to a library and study a history textbook.
Read this book. You won't put it down...

Dan Brown created a literary masterpiece which had me gripped till the very end. This novel was filled with all the ingredients required for a good read...mystery, murder & mayhem. The symbols, puzzles, codes & cryptography which are Dan Browns trademarks, added to the intrigue of the story & were fascinating once solved. It brings to light many controversial issues & draws on old beliefs & ideas that are forgotten. The sacred feminine, the Priory of Sion,& the master of disguise - Leonardo Da Vinci. The climax was totally unexpected & could never have been guessed by anyone. This page turner was worth every cent & excellent entertainment. The one common theme of this book was "Nothing is as it seems...look beyond the obvious." If you haven't read it u don't know what your missing.

I chose to read this book due to its popularity. I recall that as a Catholic, it was not a book the Church encouraged - which of course helped in my fascination.

The book is page-turner. Fun, fast, and easy to read. Where my opinion feel is in the final chapters in which the author reveals things I believe to be wholly untrue. I cannot endorse this book on that premise alone and would encourage those who read it to remember that this book if pure fiction.

Better than the movie. This is of course typical. Nothing inside the cover is business as usual though (Unless your name is Robert Langdon or Dan Brown). Excellent adventure that leaves you wanting to learn more. Murder, religion, cover-ups, secret societies and so, so much more deliver history lessons you didn't study in school. This is the book that enraged churches as a whole made its way to the big screen through MANY protests.

 D. Brawn is smart, and he puts in a book all the rumors and crap he could gather, making a pseudo-real-world book, and decieving thousands of readers about his pseudo-historical references. It's like playing a graphic aventure video game. Anyway, I didn't like his narrative style either, the book is very previsible and I actually don't understand how or why I read this book completly. I have to notice I'm actually buddhist and I don't like Catholic Church at all, but this book was created for the sake of earn money out of the Catholic church and it has little, if any, literary quality

I first watched the movie version of the book. Tom Hanks Portrayed a truely magnificent Professor Langton as did Ian Mckenna as Sir leigh. the movie is about finding the lost tomb of Mary Magdalene
through a series of tests.
Jesus Christ is questioned to be Married to Mary Magdalene, which was a bold move from Dan Brown. and Sophie's Grandfather also had the same power as Leonardo DE vinci.
even though its a fantasy, it can so easily be real, which is why its such a powerful read.

One of the most overrated books I've ever read.
It wasn't quite the book I expected it to be, according to how hyped up it was by the media and my peers, but it wasn't a HORRIBLE book, either.

I definitely think the church over-reacted concerning the book at everything written seems completely fictitious.

The fact is, the book did fall a bit short. It had the classic good guy/bad guy approach with twists and turns, and the ending DID surprise me, but I don't read mystery stories often (which this surely is), so perhaps that's why.

All in all, this is an average book with average writing and deserves an average response.

Novel misteri karya Dan Brown tentang pembunuhan seorang kurator and perburuan Holy Grail, dengan latar kisah Perjamuan Suci ( Last Supper ) yang diplesetkan versi Dan Brown tentunya .
Menggugah iman ? Nope ... for me this is a Joke , salah satu contohnya tentang pintu masuk sebuah katedral di Inggris yang digambarkan seperti organ intim wanita ..

Now that I've read this in chronological order with his earlier works, I can see where Dan Brown is coming from.

A great mix of conspiracy & cover-ups, cryptic clues, closed societies, and a good thriller plot. Even if the plot resolution is a bit too convenient!

This is the 2nd in his Robert Langdon series of books, so ideally read this after Angels and Demons, as it makes a few back reference's to it.
Read this when the hype about the book was just whipping itself up into a frenzy. I thought this was an intriguing read. The chase story element just dragged on too long though. But I hadn't read "Angels & Demons", which maybe would have set up the context for this a bit better.

The analysis of the clues throughout the book was an intriguing little twist, that got you thinking, in an intelligent Sherlock Holmes analysis style. I thought the ending was an intriguing one, but knew it was going to offend some of my friends.

I did have a look into the themes raised in the book, which did debunk some of the plotline, but as a work of fiction it was a real "What if..."

This is the book that really defined the start of the "Organised Religion Conspiracy" genre. After this, a lot of books with variants of religious coverup stories flooded the market, which were very generic from this .
