This is a book my thoughts have traveled back to many time. It is a book of mistakes, wrong things happen and good thing happen any way. It is a book of forgiveness and understanding beyond the normal.

This is the story of a young white woman who was raped and mistakenly picked her black rapist out of a lineup. Ron Cotton then spent 11 years in jail for a crime that he didn't commit. He was finally exonerated by DNA evidence. It's a frustrating story but well told. It points out the fallibility of both our perceptions and memories -- as well as the deep under-currents of racism that continue to affect realtionships & distort justice in this country. At the same time, Cotton's capacity to forgive his accuser & collaborate with her to help prevent similar injustices is both inspiring and truly awesome.

Simple, easy read, but thought provoking. It shows the vulnerability of relying only on eyewitness testimony. It is obvious Jennifer meant no ill, but was very traumatized. And the composite she made actually fit the true perpetrator to a tee. The legal process failed both Jennifer and Ronald. But, I have to say, Ronald Cotton’s attitude and forgiveness is inspiring.

I liked how the book alternated between Jennifer and Ronald Cotton, in their voices. I also thought it nicely portrayed both of them as victims. I'd have a hard time forgiving Jennifer for her wrongful accusation but I don't fault her. Their story is thought-provoking.

Excellent true story. It, to me, offered a very good example of why the death penalty should be abolished. Mistakes happen. This mistake cost Ronald Cotton 11 years of his life, spent in one hellish prison after another for a crime he didn't commit.

The uplifting part of the story is that eventually, after his release based on DNA evidence, Ron and his accuser, Jennifer Thompson became friends and now go around the country speaking out about the good chance that "eye witness testimony" can be inaccurate. It certainly was in this case.

Thought provoking....
