Fun horror stories from the 1950's and 1960's that are pleasantly gore free. The standout stories are Prey, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, The Distributor, and The Likeness of Julie. Matheson is a master of suspense in these four classics. The rest are interesting but pale in comparison. Duel is not in this book despite it being listed on the back cover.

A master of turning the everyday into something so believably sinister. Without Matheson, we would not have Stephen King, the Twilight Zone, or several fantastic movies, so do yourself a favour and check out this piece of horror history!

Richard Matheson. 'Nuff said. Some of his most classic horror stories.

Excellent collection by the writer responsible for some of the scariest shows on TV. The title story was the creepiest episodes of "The Twilight Zone" and made William Shatner a star. "Prey" was made into a TV movie with Karen Black. Here the stories are just incredible and you can see why so much of his work has been made into film and television shows.

some of the stories are in "I am Legend" short story book as well. Don't be surprised. I loved the book. I loved it when he leaves the end of every story for you to finish it.

Five stars. I started reading Matheson with this book and it didn't fail to impress. This book is a collection of his horror stories, many of which ended up as Twilight Zone episodes. Matheson is a writer who will take your nerves and wring them dry. Just when you think the story is done being intense, it's only the beginning. After you're done, you'll want more and more and more.

Matheson is the best, Stephen King agrees.

Perhaps I've read too much horror, or more likely I don't know what I'm looking for in horror fiction, but this book didn't bowl me over - not in the way the other reviewers have spoken of it. It's not a bad book, but I'm not going "Wow!" But it's pretty cool that I got to read the story which inspired the John Lithgow story in the Twilight Zone movie. =)

So much better than Stephen King. What can I say, how you do the ending makes a story and King just doesnt do it for me. Matheson is a god in the realm of horror, honestly. His stories leave you with the creepy feeling all through your body.
