Sometime Mr P can build a suspense superbly only to leave the reader feeling its over too quickly. With this rascal he gets the balance perfect. Takes you on a really good journey

It wasn't bad but it was my first book I read by the author and it's not completely stand alone, though, mostly is. Some parts are a bit confusing if you haven't read some of his other stuff and are just being introduced to the character.

Fantasic addition to the Alex Cross series, the mystery was pretty sickening (although thats the point right?), but the real charm of this book is developments in Cross's personal life.Somehow unlike his last (Cross Country) Patterson manages to make the mandatory Kyle call, absolutely chilling, I can't wait till the showdown

Awesome book. One of his better books. I had a hard time with the story line about Nana as I just lost my mom recently to the same condition.

This book, while in the Alex Cross series, can stand on it's own. I don't believe you need to have read any of the other Cross books to read this one. It's hard to review without giving away anything but it is a good book and if you like mysteries, detective stories or James Patterson it's a good read. (note: if you have read this book could you email me because I have a question about something. thanks, p)

Alex Cross is a well known detective, known for solving difficult cases, but when the phone rings at his birthday party, he finds himself in the midst of his wildest case ever. A case that involves the grisly murder (I'm glad they didn't give more detail than they did) of his estranged niece. The investigation is full of loops and twists and eventually leads him into the highest profile case he's ever had, with ties that see to go all the way to the White House. This is my first Alex Cross book, and I really enjoyed reading it. He is a fantastic character that many will be able to relate to. The death of his niece isn't the only tragedy he faces in this book, and the way he handles all the blows that come his way was very touching. He is the type of person I would want to have as a friend. The only complaint I have about the mystery solving itself was there were a couple "hand of God" moments. Things seemed to break in the case at just the right time without any action on Alex's part. This held true especially in the case of the ending, where all leads seemed to die out when miraculously something happened. Up until that point, the crime solving was done quite nicely...calling in old friends, dropping words in the ears of the right people, and good old fashioned foot work. There were a couple times the story dragged, and this coupled with the final clue, caused it to lose the 1/2 star. I would still recommend the story to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. 3.5/5

I'm going completely backwards in this series. This was my first Alex Cross book; I've seen the movies (Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider) so I have a little bit of background knowledge of the character. I felt that this book stood on it's on- you care about the characters and want to know what will happen next. I can't wait to read some more in this series.

this time I can guess who is the Zeus in the middle of book, but still love the end of it. Shocking, as what Patterson always do.

Cross is back and it was definitely work the wait. With this offering, Patterson recovers from the over the top violence of Swimsuit and gives his fans one of their favorite characters doing what he does best. Cross is still balancing the weights of work, justice, and family, and it was great to be along for the ride again.

As much as I like these books, they're all pretty much the same and tend to run together. The allure of the series is the comfortablness and consistency of the characters that are involved from novel to novel. It's set up that when they make the slightest immrovement, you feel good for them. At the same time, the slightest negative change feels like a blow. That being said, this installment featured some of the characters acting quite differently. Bree being all domestic, Mahoney breaking protocal in a brash way, and Nana Mama being truely vulnerable and confronting her seemingly eternal mortality for the first time. Plus the kids seem to be getting older. But Alex is still the exact same man he always was. The Kyle Craig teaser is awesome, too.

Very quick read and hard to put down. That being said, I wanted a tad different ending and also wanted to know what happened next. Of course, maybe that's the whole idea.
