James Patterson has done it again, and this time its a new series!! Yes it's actually in the Young Adults section, but who cares!! It's James Patterson!! If he wrote it,I'm reading it!! It starts off with the family sound asleep and their house is basically attacked by the New Order Police. The children, Wisteria and Whitford, are locked up in a Children's Prison for being a witch and wizard. The story is told from the children's point of views. It actually is an interesting book. Even if you aren't into the Wiccan thing, you can look at how their lives are changed just because some ruler took over very slyly, and no one was paying attention, and now has complete control. It's actually a good history lesson!! Kind of reminds me of the Dr. Seuss books, with a hidden lesson in each one!!

This book has many elements of James Patterson's Maximum ride books. Kids in Peril, kids who have to save the world from adults who are destroying it. I did like the message of the book: how very easy it is just to allow something like Hitler to happen.
Anyway, it's good but not the best young adult novel I've read.

It was so fast and suspenseful like every other James Patterson book I've read. And I really enjoyed it, but the plot was almost too much. There was too much being thrown at you at once, I think I was a little shell shocked and it took away from the story. Still overall it was good.

I really enjoyed Witch & Wizard. It was very Harry Potter like and reminded me somewhat of the Hunger Games & Catching Fire because of the role of government in a future society. This book was unlike any other James Patterson book I've ever read. Looking forward to the next installment to see what happens to Witsy & Whit.

SPOILER ALERT: Liked it, didn't love it. It got my attention in the beginning, and then rapidly lost it as the story progressed. Too many contrived things, even for a scifi/fantasy type novel. Also the ending was... well... not so great. We were left with a cliffhanger that didn't even feel like a cliffhanger. 1.) There was a betrayal, but the character in question wasn't important enough that i even cared about the betrayal. It didn't feel like a betrayal. It just happened. 2.) The ending. There's an epilogue, and a final epilogue. They made such a jump to the final part of the epilogue that i had no idea how they got from point A to point B. Maybe that was the point, but if it was, they didn't do it well. It seemed very disjointed, and as i alluded to in #1 above, i didn't feel like we had enough chance to get to know and care about the characters for it to matter a whole lot. Probably won't read the sequel whenever it comes out.

This book was okay. It was kind of recycled a bit, but it may have been the people reading the audio book that made it less pleasant. Not sure I'd listen to the second installment though.

Couldn't get past page 100...I expected more and had to put it down. I will finish it, because I hope the next 100 pages will be more fulfilling...but for now, I switched to something else. Definitely not up there with other young adult stories, such as the Hunger Games or the City of Glass trilogies. So far...pretty disappointing and a bit boring.

This book was extremely good, didn't expect any less from James Patterson, but not his best either. The beggining went straight to the point and I liked that, but it went a little bit fast in my opinion. Most readers my age though like it like that :P I absolutely adored the ending though! A second book better come out soon!

I thought it was a great book. Rarely read any teen books, but when we received the "advanced reader in our book store was intrigued James Patterson had co-wrote a teen book. And.... the cover really grabbed my attention. Liked it so much, it's my book recommend for the month at the book store. Awesome book, well written & kept my interest during the whole book... ended up being one of those, couldn't put it down till I was done. (except when I got too tired and ha to sleep, but started it right back up the next day) I think it will appeal to both male & female... also another teen book that many other age groups will like. When done, my son's friend read it (13) I think, really liked it as well.

Witch & Wizard is high action throughout the entire book. Unfortunately, the story begins in a negative situation that shows no sign of easing until halfway through the book. If readers were given a little bit of light amongst all the dark, the first 150 pages would be easier to read. Fortunately, the second half of the novel makes up for the first. Not only do the characters grow in confidence and strength, they create their own light against the dark forces of the corrupt government.

In Witch & Wizard, we’re introduced to 15-year-old Wisty Algood and her 17-year-old brother Whit. Immediately the story jumps into the action as members of the New Order (a corrupt government organization that is taking over the entire world) invade the Algood’s home. The siblings are accused of being a witch and wizard, which is news to them as they’ve been raised without any knowledge of their true identities.

The New Order, led by an evil man called The One Who Is the One, imprisons Whit and Wisty in jail. They’re trapped in horrible conditions, having to run through a hallway lined with hungry beasts to fetch their food. The bleak jail supposedly has properties to keep their magical powers at bay. But unlike the countless other imprisoned kids, the siblings discover that their magic is still in full force. Their powers surface at random, usually during times of intense anger or fear, making it hard to count on their magic as a means of escape.

I’m so disappointed in this book! I thought it was going to be so much better, but it wasn’t. There was no imagery and I couldn’t picture what the two main characters in the book even looked like. Wisty had orange hair and freckles and Whit was a football hunk? That was all he talked about on the two characters. Also, their voices were the same so I kept forgetting who was talking at which time, and the two page chapters was not enough to get me into the book. He left out so much detail that the story never came to life. For example, the character Michael Clancy did not make me feel bad for him because he got “vaporized.” Patterson tried making us feel bad for this character in one paragraph and didn’t even explain what vaporized meant. Did it burn off his skin? How did he even look besides scrawny? Did he look so fragile that even the slightest touch would break him in two? I need imagery!
It’s sad because I’ve read a couple of Patterson’s books before and I loved “Swimsuit” because it was an easy read but at the same time gruesome. This book, however, I wouldn’t even recommend to younger people as a pre-teen read.
Even the ending was horrible. It went from them talking to their parents’, to being captured and about to be hanged. I understand that he wants to make this into a series, but how did that happen? He left out how they even got there, couldn’t he even add some detail. I felt as though he got tired and just decided to end the book.
I’m sorry for those of you who really enjoyed this book, but I felt as though it was just a waste of money.

SPOILER: This book is TO BE CONTINUED. If I had known that I wouldn't have read it. There is no ending only an opening to the next book and that honks me off. I usually pick a book for the title I don't like to read too much about it but I think if it mentioned 'new Patterson series' or something like that on the cover that would have been useful to me.

Back to the book. I assume this is Patterson's attempt at the 'Harry Potter' market. I didn't realize the book was about teenagers another thing in the minus column for me.

I enjoy Patterson I think, maybe it's the co-authors I like, only they know what parts they wrote. I like the Pattersonian short 'chapters' but I just am not interested enough in these characters to look forward to another book about them.

What a disappointment. James Patterson used to be my favorite author but he has become nothing more than a sellout using his name to make money. I wonder if he even READ this book, much less wrote a word of it. Pathetic from the bad dialogue to unbelievable characters to boring plot. Skip it to read anything else that might be more interesting....like the back of a cereal box.

Witch & Wizard is a fast paced book about siblings Whit and Wisty Allgood. Whit and Wisty wake up to soldiers storming their home in the middle of the night. They are considered criminals for crimes they do not know about against a government that prohibits many freedoms. They are taken away from their parents, given a trial and sentenced for being a wizard & a witch. During their confinement Whit & Wisty learn that their parents managed to escape and now make it their mission to escape and find their parents all the while learning of their new powers. They manage to obtain help from unlikely sources in their quest for freedom and discover more powers than they ever dreamed of.
This book has a lot of potential and I had high hopes for it and for the series. Unfortunately, this book fell flat. Highly predictable and cheesy throughout the story, I feel that the characters could have had much more depth and the world explored so much further. All the reader is given is the story from Whit & Wisty's point of view (which is very limited). It is easy to spot that this is the first book in the series as it is left wide open for a sequel when nothing is resolved. I am unsure as to whether or not I will bother reading the next book in the series.
I feel that this book is meant more for pre-teens than any other audience. The chapters are short (1-5 pages long) and the action is non-stop. Patterson has a website dedicated to the series with sample chapters and other activities.

I was really annoyed with this book at first. I find the writing very immature! The writing drove me extremely crazy. Just because it’s for teens does it have to sound like a 10 year old wrote it? Teens are smart. Harry Potter is in the 7-9 categories and it is very intellectually written. Teen authors seem to underestimate our young readers.

After I got over the writing I was able to focus on the story which in the end I really liked. I really liked that the kid’s powers actually worked when they used them and the powers were kinda cool. Lol

I am really looking forward to the next book in the series!

This is another great Adventure by James Patterson. This book follows a Brother and Sister as they come into their powers, while the whole world changes around them to something dark. The NEW ORDER is out for power and THE ONE WHO IS THE ONE is out to get Whit and Whitsy. The must fight back, but first they have to escape the New Order and their exuction. I can't wait for the next book. A fan of the Max Ride books, i'm so happy to be reading another adventure where teens step up to the grown ups.

I picked up this audiobook, not knowing it was going to be a series. Now I can't wait to read the second one. Great book, that I think will appeal to boys as well as girls. If your child is looking for book similiar to Harry Potter, I highly recommend this one.

Not much to say so far. I thought I never read a James Patterson book, until I realized he's the same author who wrote all the horrid Max Ride novels. So I kind of dreaded reading at the start, but so far it's not so bad. I'm actually enjoying it, and I'm hoping the rest of the book will be as good.

I can't express to you how disappointed I was in this book. It was terribly written, the lines were cheesy, and i found myself saying "really?" a lot, not in a good way. I got excited for this book because the adverts for it were comparing it to Harry Potter, saying "Tired of waiting for the next Harry Potter book? Witch and Wizard is the next best thing". Harry Potter is a billion times better than this book in all aspects. Although I haven't read any other James Patterson books I know he's well known and loved by many people so I assumed the writing would at least be good. It wasn't. The only reason I kept reading it after the first few (2 page long) chapters was because I was waiting for it to be less stupid. Save your 14 bucks and spend it on something more useful, like toilet paper.

I wish I could give this book NEGATIVE stars, it was THAT bad. Honestly, one of the worst things I've had the misfortune to read. I want my money and my time BACK, darn it.
How can I start describing just how bad this book is?
For starters, simple grammatical construction and NO BIG WORDS are an INSULT TO THE READER!!! Now, apparently, it's a children's book, but kids are NOT dumb, especially these days. And children's literature should challenge the children who read it, not treat them like babies who can't handle more than "See Dick, See Jane" style writing. I mean, look at JK Rowling - her books are full of references to traditional myths, fairy tales, and folklore - not to mention wordplay in both English and Latin. It is NOT necessary to insult the reader just because it's a "kid's" book.
Second, you'd think that in 2009, people would be beyond writing racist books. But not Patterson, apparently. His "regime", a Big Brother type distopia, makes one cringe with it's attack on Peace, Order, and Good Government. What should be a satirical attack on Conservative Republicanism - instead turns into a defence of it and a plea for complete anarachy (leaders who can only serve for a single week? Seriously? How would ANYTHING get done. It takes more than a week to figure out what your doing in a normal new job.) And the descriptions of bad guys are especially racist.
Finally, the book starts with basically a cliffhanger, then returns to the EXACT same point. Nothing is resolved. We don't know what actually happens to the characters we've actually become to somewhat care about despite the many faults of the novel. This is a GRIEVOUS ERROR - obviously meant to sell more books, when sequels come out. But, sorry, you simply can't leave a real novel like that. It's just not done. It's like a mystery novel that never reveals whodunnit. It's just so...wrong is the only word I can come up.
KEEP YOUR MONEY, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! If you must read it, borrow a copy from a library or a friend.
