It is a vividly written story about love. My first feeling, after I finished reading, was: I want to read it again - the same story or something similar. I really missed it, like somebody who I loved. The book is really impressive.

Really good honest, philosophical and lyrical observations and opinions on love in a relationship. Clear observations on things every person feels on love and emotions so that we can get a grasp on why we feel the way we do so we can manage our emotions. Although the author basically concludes that although we may be aware of these things, managing what our mind knows with what we feel is nearly impossible.

This novel describes changes in sentiments from the beginning to the end of love. The author is a genius to be able to elaborate feelings that one may feel while in love. The very lesson you may learn in this book is that no matter how hearbroken you were after breakup, there's another love awaiting.

Fascinating dissection of the minutiae of a relationship. Particularly loved the description of anhedonia, the fear of happiness, which apparently is akin to mountain sickness.

This has to be one of the most beautiful books I've read. Although I read it a couple of years ago perhaps, and my taste in books has changed significantly since, it left a lasting impression strong enough for me to write about (and praise it) now.

The book tells of a love affair between the main character and 'Chloe'. Amazingly, I really felt like I experienced the romance in this book first hand- perhaps due in part to it being written in the first person but also because of the author's undeniable skill in describing and conjuring up emotion.

When the love affair ended I remember feeling rather heart-broken myself and really experiencing the raw feelings of the protagonist by proxy.

I suppose De Botton has an unusual writing style. Something that reminds me in part of another philosophical writer- Kundera. Some beautiful crisp observations on love, as far as I remember. A lovely starting point for those who wish to think about Love and would like food for thought.

Through the ups and downs of a relationship, de Botton takes us through a philosophical journey of love or really, a relationship; from the free-falling highs of the beginning to the suicidal lows at the end. Many of the aspects of growing a relationship, from building intimacy through mutual experiences and answering the question "what do I see in him/her?" are things that many of us have done but never stopped to answer. De Botton seeks to answers them with gentleness and references to past philosophers, poets and bad love song lyrics.

Uma curiosa análise de Alain de Botton sobre o quanto de uma relação pode ser considerado nosso, e o quanto se insere na sociedade que nos rodeia. Um livro essencial para encontrar, de forma simples, formas de analisar as coisas simples de uma relação

i believe everyone - absolutely everyone - should read this book. if you have ever been in love, if you’re in love now, if you dream of being in love at some point in your life - you need to read this. de Botton’s measured, calm, reassuring and absolutely entertaining perspectives on this most human of emotions will feel like a buoyancy aid in the rough seas of your emotional life.

jumping from psychoanalysis to existential philosophy to politics and terrorism in his exploration of what makes us love, de Botton is utterly talented - i have never read anyone who has made philosophy and introspectionism as relevant, entertaining, and easy to read as de Botton, and i doubt anyone else could.

please read this book - feel happier about yourself, feel more confident about your emotions, feel less fear in love, and above all, tell me what you thought yourself!

I love de Botton's writing. Very difficult to describe how precisely he pinpoints the feelings and then puts them into words. He is so easy to read, yet never trite, and always manages to show how erudite and educated he is without rubbing anyone's nose in it - it always works with the story. And finally, that a man could ever write in a way that seems as if he was living in a woman's brain...a miracle. Fun to read, yet always an intelligent read. I highly recommend it (as I do his other books).
