Anne Rice's writing is just magical. The descriptions used in the book. Every sight, every sound. She just makes everything amazing. The plot is absolutely captivating. You just can't stop reading it until the last page and then you wish you hadn't finished it so fast. The way she describes vampires see things, the despair they feel, the freedom they feel, how trapped they feel. She just captures everything so perfectly.

This is the day I fell in love with a Vampire. He is most definatley my favourite character. Avoid movies about him because they will erase the picture I have of him in my mind.

I have read “Interview with the vampire” in 2001, and adored it. Same for the movie. So, I can’t understand why I haven’t liked this. I mean, is nice, but nothing more. I’ve found it irritating in the descriptions sometimes, and too naïve in others. Often too solemn, almost caricatural. Maybe I’ve changed my tastes, or maybe Anne Rice wasn’t as inspired with the second book as she was for the first.

"Interview With The Vampire frm Lestat's point of view. Much more exciting than Louis' version; also talks about his early years and how he was "born to darkness", etc. Awesome book!

While I understand that she was giving a background on Lestat, this was a very long read.

Thus begins the rich, deep mythology of Anne Rice's vampires. This book is just about as good as the first, but not my favorite. However, one can't deny that this is a great book. This is really the first part of a two-parter; the book ends in what is essentially a cliffhanger and is continued in book three in the Vampire Chronicles, "The Queen of the Damned." Highly recommended.
