One of my very favorite Anne Rice books. It merges the present day with the mysticism of ancient egypt. A beautifully written book, and a definate must read.

I spent my junior high and high school years completely immersed in the world that Anne Rice created. I will always have a ton of respect for this woman and her work.

The only reason to read this book is for fun. You will be no better or worse for having read it. While I appreciate Rice's talent for spinning tales, I actually started to resent the book. Her decadent writing style is great if you have hours to waste, but I was irritated with all of the gratuitous sex scenes that did nothing for the plot. The book was fun, but would have been a lot better without them.

This is the first Anne Rice book I've read...was alright. Not the usual 'mummy' story, that's for sure.

Most of "The Mummy" books/movies are about horror and something evil brought back to life, but Rice takes a different approach and makes her mummy, Ramses, a very human, relatable, tragic hero. There are some interesting plot twists, like including his past relationship with Cleopartra that comes back to haunt him... literally. It doesn't really end with a finality, but leaves a cliff hanger that could have been made into a sequel or two. I highly enjoyed this book and have reread it many times.

This is the second time I have read this book, as the last time was years ago. The story is different then any mummy tale I have seen to date. It deals more so with immortality then raising the dead, and the emotional turmoil that accompanies being immortal.

The Story moves quickly and the characters are very likeable. The reason I only gave the book four stars is because three quarters of the way through the book, I found the characters where not behaving quite like themselves and also because I find I'm left hanging at the end of the book. I feel robbed of the knowledge of what happens to certain characters like Alex? Elliot?

I feel the book has been left open for a sequel but so far there has been non forthcoming. With Anne Rice I guess you just can't ever tell what she will do next. Crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath.

okay book by anne rice. but i think more effort is put into her vampire and witch series. but she does throw in some random books like cry to heaven, vittorio the vampire, violin, out of egypt christ the lord, road to cana. they are actually interesting books and not preachy. mix of fiction and the bible's stories.

My father gave this to me to read when I was about 12, and I absolutely loved it, and still do love it. I find the characters and the storyline compelling, although I think that I should have read it for the first time when I was older because so much of the storyline does rely on sex between the various characters. This is still the only Anne Rice book I've read, although I own several others, because I asked for the books for Christmas, and no one could find the first few books, so I really have no experience of her other books to compare it to, which may slant my opinion. I wish that she had continued the story in another book, or several more books, but I can appreciate that the ending of this book put her in a difficult position as far as writing a sequel. I'm not exactly sure how she would have addressed the beginning of a sequel to this book.

This book was more of a love story than Anne Rice's vampire novels. The characters actions I felt were odd and and unbelievable, which is not something I'm used to from Rice. It was however quite enjoyable for the ancient references and the flashbacks.

I first listened to this book when I was in middle school, which was probably inappropriate at the time. It made a very big impression on me and through the years I always remembered it fondly. I finally re-listened to it a couple of years ago and it still held the magic that it did when I was younger. I am sure it would be the same if I had read it versus listened to it on tape.

One of the worst books of Rice. She didn't miss a chance to downgrade Egypt and Egyptians, which reflect a very shallow vision of the writer!!
How can a nation have an Opera house which was founded the first in the Middle East and drive camels to it!! Such a stupid misguiding info.
The end also made me want to through the book out of the window. The worst I've read this year so far, and indeed Rice's worst.
