It was really great to be able to go back before Shea to see what happened to get the ball rolling for all the future generations. Like all his books Terry Brooks did a wonderful job with his writing and went above and beyond with the plotline. I am really impressed with the series as a whole and would definitely recommend for any reader to give this series a try.

A prequel to the Sword it is an excellent read. Although it was written after the Sword trilogy and the Scions quartet.

Rather a good fantasy story. I'm interested to read the further works in this series now....Overall, I enjoyed it.

This book is very good so far. It's well written and has a complex and interesting plot. The characters are fantasy based, but believable and capable of being related to. This story is very much like Tolkien, but with its own personal flare and character. I am looking forward to finishing this book and moving on to the rest of the Shannara series.

Like all the Terry Brooks novels I have read, this fantasy yarn is plot driven. The characters are flat, but it is entertaining sword and sorcery stuff.

Terry Brooks, is able to write a wonderful fantasy that enthralls you. It is absolutely fascinating how he blends fantasy and the real world together intertwining the real and the non real. Also the little touches such as dwarfs that fear the underground is great.Although a fan of RA Salvatore's writing, Terry's characters are more human not having any super powers and he is readily killing off main characters, which is refreshing.

it's a really fantastic book, one of my favourite shannara books so far, it explained a lot about bremen and allanon, and most importantly, about jerle shannara himself, if u r looking for a good read,then u should start with this one, it's amazing

its a good read, prequel to the sword of shannara, explaining how the Warlock Lord Brona was not defeated on the first encounter by Jerle Shannara and the druid Bremen. I personally liked the character of Kinson Ravenlock, the borderman.

I Am a Terry Brooks Addict - I hope this series never ends. Similar to the Tolkien books - a true Science Fiction Fantasy!

Read the whole series. I was sentenced to read these books for being suspended from school; best thing that ever happened to my reading world.
