Probably one of my more favorite books in the vamp chronicles. Pandora doesn't write or sound like any other vampire and her insights to the whole world are priceless given how long she has been at it hailing from the height of the Roman empire...

This was a kind of slow starting story for Anne Rice, but it ended up being a wonderful story... very inspiring at the end.

Technically this is not a Vampire Chronicles book. This book was one of two "New Tales of the Vampire" books that Rice wrote; it was targeted to teens, so this is a book which is toned down in several respects for a younger audience. The writing is still uniquely Anne Rice, though not as meticulously detailed as her other vampire novels. Also, had this book been written as a true Vampire Chronicles novel, it probably would have been more, shall we say, R-rated. Still, this is another good story of a great vampire, and one to be enjoyed.

this starts off exacly like interview with a vampire...so I had to go back and start reading the Vampire Chronicles first.

Pandora sounded very beautiful, I think. Although quite clearly, predisposed to irrational acts-like that part where she wants to worship the queen and tell the world all about it. That sounded crazy, but she had so much life in her...not talking about the immortality. It was a great read, as it is tied down to the vampire chronicles, but her role seems to fade away, sadly, in the 'queen of the damned'. I would have liked to 'see' more of her there.All in all-anne rice is da bomb!!

Once again, Rice has managed to publish slow-moving, distasteful, literary something. The graphic scenes weren't nearly as bad as they were in The Blood Canticle and I actually managed to finish this one (with difficulty). I genuinely don't have an opinion on this book however, I've given up reading Anne Rice's books due to the fact that, from what I've seen so far, it would be a waste of headspace, time, and paper. 2*

Per poter risorgere dal pozzo di oscurità nel quale era caduta con la fine delle "Cronache", Anne Rice sceglie un racconto suggestivo e affascinante, che rinvigorisce la passione del lettore di romanzi gotici e porta in un mondo antico che da spiegazioni lasciate in sospeso nei romanzi precedenti.

If you're looking for answers about Pandora's personality and background, you will definitely love this book. 70% of this book is about Pandora's mortal life, her personality and experiences. I did like this book, but I was expecting so much more about her immortal life. For me, this book is all about Roman history from Pandora's (and Marius') eyes, and its delightful, can't deny it, but still I forgot sometimes that Pandora was a vampire... because the book is not centered on her as a vampire lol. Marius is even more defined and I was happy to read about his early years. Also I was very happy to read about Pandora and Marius' relationship, even if it wasn't much detailed. I guess the best part of the book is Pandora's character. Being the only female character of the Vampire Chronicles that got to describe her life, we get to understand more about the weight on immortality through her personality.
