Even after five novels in the Vampire Chronicles series, the sixth doesn't disappoint. One might imagine that the mythology of the vampires would grow stale after so long, but it is not true. This book was written right around the time that Anne Rice renounced her atheism and started the road back to her Catholic faith. Her story is mirrored with Armand's story, which, as always, presents a brilliant and well-researched historical context. Armand loved God early in his mortal life, but as he grew older (in mortal life and immortal life) he started to turn away from the Christian God, and by the end of the book... well, I won't ruin it for you.

I enjoyed all of the books by Anne Rice about vampires, especially this one. She really knows how to make you feel the characters emotions. You could say she captures the essence of vampirism. Its not all about seduction and sex, its about alienation. Basicly, after Armand went through all that he did as a human, life as a vampire is difficult.
I enjoyed all of the a
