Time continues to move at glacial speed in Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series. Mistral's Kiss occupies such a brief time that I felt dissatisfied at the end. I mean, Merry only has sex twice...or is that three times? Luckily the latest installment is just around the corner.

The Merry Gentry series is one that you should begin from the beginning with A Kiss of Shadows. You will be frustrated and confused if you don't.

In Mistral's Kiss, Merry has an opportunity to consummate the powerful attraction she and Queen's guard Mistral experienced in A Kiss of Shadows. Merry's sidhe powers continue to grow through expressing her sexual energy, and it's even hinted that she may be becoming less mortal (if this isn't like being "a little pregnant"). Speaking of being pregnant, this is Mission #1 for Merry, and since this need drives most of the plot tension, it's not a spoiler that doesn't seem to become pregnant in this book either. Although it's not clear if Faerie relies on home pregnancy tests or something more mystical for early detection.

In Mistral's Kiss we get more understanding of the court of the Sluagh and its powers. Sholto, King of the Sluagh makes another appearance and gets a chance to collect on Merry's commitment to him.

Merry's fans will enjoy this book but will find it unsatisfying. Perhaps Ms. Hamilton is stretched thin between two active series. I look forward to A Lick of Frost and hope for more!

Have loved all the other books in this series, but this one was a disappointment. It was short, too sort and just seemed too brief-a few sex scenes and not much more. Not really much of a story line, but I did enjoy the last bit of the book, learning more about the sluagh and their interaction with Meredith's realm of faerie.

I was sort of dissapointed in this book actually. I love the series, and the previous book was wonderful. This one was rather short and really did not have much of a storyline in my opinion.

I have to agree with the person who said it was basically two sex scenes and a climax, hardly any plot. Merry has sex with a couple of men, gets in some trouble, then gets out of it rather quickly. Oh, and she realizes which of her men she loves the most, so that was worthwhile at least.

Well, I admit, I read this series for the gratuitous sex, but the storyline is honestly captivating. Then again, there's also all the gore.... My only complaint thus far is, it seems, with the longer the series goes on, the timeframe that the book covers gets smaller and smaller. I think this one wasn't even a day.

I loved this book, it was so amazing and addicting I simply couldn't put it down until I was done. Laurell K. Hamilton is an amazing author who knows how to write a story that will have you completely absorbed by the second page.
Omg! I love the series and this new book, well it's not so new anymore, but still. And i can't find he next one, I bought and I lost it when I got home :(

Amazingly enough, I enjoyed MISTRAL'S KISS. After the farce that has become the Anita Blake series, I was worried that the Meredith Gentry series would inevitably take the same downhill dive. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.

This book is enjoyable, and does actually contain a plot. There are some negatives, of course, the first of which is the length of the book itself--or, more accurately, the lack of length. At only 212 pages, this story is 100+ pages shorter than the other books in the series. It would have made much more sense to make MINSTRAL'S KISS another 10 chapters or so in the previous book, A STROKE OF MIDNIGHT, rather than a stand-alone book.

Also, the book only covers a few hours, from midnight until dawn following the assassination attempt on Merry's life that came about in A STROKE OF MIDNIGHT. I had noticed with the Anita Blake series that the time frames for each book were becoming shorter each time, and such now seems to be the case with this series, as well.

The sex doesn't bother me in this series, either, since the entire "background" of the main plot line is that Merry must become pregnant before her cousin Cel impregnates someone to take the throne. Although the first 70+ pages of MISTRAL'S KISS are a sex scene, with yet again multiple partners, it does actually make sense to the story.

My biggest complaint about the book, by far, is the fact that there is a major, major, MAJOR development at the end of the book that is only given a passing explanation. In less than two paragraphs, a huge event takes place, and yet Ms. Hamilton only devotes a few words to it--almost as an afterthought. Logically speaking, this should imply that the next book in the series will expound on that event, but if you've been following either of the author's series lately, you'd know by now that Ms. Hamilton doesn't always seem to write logically.

Overall, I did enjoy the story, much more so than the last Anita Blake novel. It won't take you long to read this (it took me less than two hours), and you won't see a whole lot of progression, but the editing is tighter with this book, and you'll definitely appreciate a dose of the faery world.

I just finished this book, which I got for Christmas, and I really enjoyed it. The plot moved along smoothly, and the sex scenes were great. In my opinion, Mistral's Kiss is by far the best book in the Meredith Gentry series. Even though the book before this one, A Stroke of Midnight was good, I think it carried on way to long. The one negative thing I have to say about Mistral's Kiss is that Mistral, I think, should've done more than he did. He had sex with Meredith, and then kinda followed her around, and he wasn't much of a character after he had sex with her, and was mentioned very little after that. Even though his little part had great signifcance, but i just don't think he shouldve been, "Ok you have sex with Meredith for one night and thats it." And he was just kinda like, "ok..." I thought he more back bone than that, but i guess I was wrong. I loved Meredith's realization about Doyle though towards the end. I did really enjoy this book, it was by far the best in the series. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I have given this book one of the highest ratings in this series and that is purely for the ending. I won't give it away but the action in the last 50 pages or so carried some interesting developments and introduced some new ideas which could make the following books a bit more interesting. Up until this last 50 pages though this book is entirely sex. The action of the book takes place in a little less than 24 hours and unlike the previous books there isn't a murder case or crime to be solved here.

I rate this book with 4 stars because I liked the ending and I think that Mistral is an interesting character. I would have to say that on the whole this series is not one of the better ones I have ever read. If you are new to Hamilton I would recommend starting with the Anita series and only going to this series when you are trying to fill in time between book releases.

Pleasantly surprised that was was actually a story and that the sex scenes were much more to the point of the book. I am more comfortable with the sex scenes in the Merry series than the Anita Blake series as a whole, but I was happy that this book actually had more of a story to it than I expected. I wish it had been longer, with more action, but it was something, and it gave me faith in LKH again, faith which I had lost after Danse Macabre

What the hell... here I am waiting a whole year for the new Merry Gentry Novel and it comes out as the size of a harlequin (100 and some pages).

Come on, you wait and wait... and it's over so soon.
you know what I mean, It was good but over way to fast, HAHA remind anyone of anything else, =)

Don't get me wrong the book was great but it should have been part of the last book instead of it's own book, it was still the same day as the last book, jeese louise....

It wasn't all that bad, and it wasn't all that good, either. The sex scenes weren't horrendously awful to me, but then again, I used to review mediocre e-published erotic romance, so maybe I'm immune to mediocre/bad sex scenes.

I actually kind of liked the plot, what little there was of it. I suppose it was enough plot to get me to read the next book, which comes out in October.
