I haven't read the first 6 books, but the book doesn't make you feel like you're missing anything - it sweeps you right in, though it seemed a bit dull at first. Every page is brimming with the author's vivid imagination, and there is just enough sex, strife, and strangeness to make it interesting enough to keep reading more. I'm even considering looking for the other 6 books at the library to see where the story really started.

I was really into the series in the beginning and now it just doesn't hold my interest anymore.

I thought this book was amazingly well-written. Lots of drama and adventure. Unlike so many other fans of LKH, I didn't by any means think this was the final Meredith Gentry novel. So much more to do with this story, looking forward to the next one! =)

Okay, this book is not a typical Meredith Grey book in my opinion. But it was still good. However, I so hated the ending. But again can't wait for the next one.

wonderfull book just wonderfull :P This book i mean Laurell K. Hamilton she is a wonderfull writer, this book its so good it makes u cry it makes u be happy all emotions at once lol call me crazy but it does. Isimply LOVE IT.

She finally went back to the openings she made for herself and used them and I was pleased with this book. There was a lot of in between stuff that kinda lost my attention for the most part but as a whole I enjoied the book. Though I do believe that the series is finished now. The way the book ended it just seemed like there wouldn't be anymore.

Unfortunately, I think this is Merry's last book! I didn't even know that when I picked it up and began reading it. The story had a lot intrigue and places to go but it ends up going nowhere in the end. I was highly disatisfied with the ending and it made no sense character-wise! When I came upon the scene that the title is based on, I smiled cuz.. haha I got it and when you read it you'll understand it too. At least this book had less other-worldly-touch-me-once-and-I-orgasm sex and more of a story... Maybe Hamilton is mixing up her characters because Anita is starting to have that kind of sex now. Other than the ending, the book was pretty good.

I just can't get enough.......A Must Read! This was the best Merry Gentry book yet! I loved it!There is more books to come for this series! THIS IS NOT THE FINAL MERRY GENTRY BOOK! The Laurell Hamilton web site has confirmed there is more to the story!I highly Recommend this Series! I read them all in order & loved every single book. Swallowing Darkness is my Favorite!I do recommend you read this series in Order. Although Merry still is not the Queen of the Unseelie Court....She is well on her way!I can't wait for the next book!I just can't get enough! A Must Read!

FINALLY, some resolution! This entry in the Merry Gentry series plods along a bit at first, as the characters in this series tend to overanalyze and thoroughly discuss everything, but the major battle between Meredith and her enemies is Laurell Hamilton at her finest. If you read these for the sex, you'll be a bit disappointed with this one. But, if you're reading for the story, you'll be happy to see some conclusions here. This series is far from her best and I think that with some serious editing it would have made a much better trilogy than a seven-book series, but if you are as hooked on Hamilton as I am you will read it regardless of quality.

OMG!!! To me this by far the best book of the series, i was so sad in lick of frost and little worried that merry would lose her darkness with the title of this one, but WOW is all i have to say, i can't wait for number 8. Laurell is the greatest writer

I really enjoyed this book. The ending was terrific...and I hope there are more to the series...but if not, she did tie up some loose ends with the possibility of more to come. After reading some reviews online before I bought this book, I was anticipating that I would be disappointed. The reviews I read were dead wrong...this book includes everyone important to Merry in one way or another. Some characters are not in the forefront, but she did not leave them out. I like Merry more and more...I hope there are more books to come.

Good to see that Ms. Hamilton is focusing more on story in all her series, making this installment in the Merideth Genty series better than the last few (although lets hope she doesn't cut out all the sex). Add a star if you know the characters. The ending seemed a bit abrupt to me, especially as it could be the end of the series.

I was very happy with this book. I adore Ms. Hamilton's writing and this book just sang. I was very glad to see that we had a lot of loose ends tied up and a lot of new information about the characters we've been with for seven books. I'm hoping this isn't the last (but the end of the book kind of felt like it!). All in all I heartily recommend this book.

I loved loved loved this book in the series. It had everything ~ sacrifice, love, death, drama, vengeance, and so much more. Hamilton outdid herself on this one. Can't wait for more from Hamilton. She has said that Merry isn't done yet, and I for one am gonna hold her to that....

3.5 stars because this is better than the Lick of Frost. The ending of the book seemed like an ending to the story but I hear that there is more to come - I know about what, but I'm sure I'll be buying the book on release day. Read it if you have read the series but nothing like the first few books of the series (unless you are reading for her Darkness...)

The start of this book is a chaotic mess. There were moments in the early chapters that I considered giving up, but it suddenly gets better, gains direction. Unfortunately, it doesn't last. Ultimately, the book is two good extended scenes glued together by some fairly dodgy writing. For example; Things get pretty rough at various points in the story, but all that happens is that Merry cries out "Goddess help me" and everything is fixed by divine power. The style is still enjoyable, the characters and characterization are both of a high quality, but the plot lets it all down pretty badly. If the series continues, I suspect I won't be pre-ordering the next one. I finished it though, so it gets a passing grade; 3/5
