Found it difficult to focus on it. Guess the Force wasn't with me! ;)

This is the first book in the successor series to Legacy of the Force. The Galatic Alliance non-force sensitive population is tired of being caught between the Sith and the Jedi (similar in some respects to the ending of the Babylon 5 series). To placate the powers that be Luke steps down as the leader of the Jedi and accepts exile with Ben. Their goal is to find out what made Jacen go sour.

There are at least 4 solid plot lines running and personally, I like the humor, especially between Luke and Ben. I hope the rest of the books stay with the quality of this one.

I've enjoyed Allston's earlier work in the X-Wing series, and this as well. Opens an interesting new timeline, and adds a hero quest type mechanic along with a father/son adventure.

This book was a very good start to this series considering how well done legacy of the force was.
Luke skywalkers exile is a nice twist with a sojourn wraped in with it along with ben for company and answers to jacens fall to the dark side .very very good read.

I really enjoyed this book. I am a big
Star Wars fan and this picks up after the 9 book series "legacy of the force". If you are a fan of star wars and love the classic star wars characters, then you should like this book. So far, the series starts with Luke being banished from the Jedi Order by the government. He takes his son Ben with him to go search for a reason why the recently deceased Jacen Solo (Han & Leia's kid) turned to the dark side and became a sith lord. Luke and his son retrace the journey Jacen took as a young jedi to try and figure out how this could have happened. Good start to this 9 book series.

The first book in the 9 book all-hardcover series Fate of the Jedi introduces the premise of the government's actions in controlling the Jedi after Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side and his destructive rule during the Second Galactic Civil War. To the contrary, not much happens in this book other than the Jedi being restrained by the government, Luke's exile from Coruscant for not "preventing" Jacen's fall, and the negotiations between the Imperial Remnant and the Galactic Alliance regarding the Empire's official membership in the Galactic Alliance. Although there is plenty to work with, this novel makes it seem as if they only used half of its potential, and this doesn't bode well if we have a nine-book series based off the events in this book. We have a useless plotline regarding Leia and Han helping Lando save Kessel from exploding, which has no relevance regarding the premise of the overall story. Although it was a fun and mindless read of a Star Wars adventure, it felt like filler for lack of ideas regarding the Jedi and Luke's exile. However, I did enjoy the plotline with Luke and Ben tracing back Jacen's steps during the five years he was missing and presumably training in all aspects of The Force. This was something I was curious to know ever since the Dark Nest trilogy and I'm glad we got our feet wet in exploring one of the techniques he learned and the people he learned it from. I'm anxious to see more discoveries regarding this and the growth in Luke and Ben's relationship. Unfortunately, this was the only plotline that felt like it was true to the premise, everything else-except for Jaina and friends trying to figure out the dementia of rouge Jedi Knights Valin Horn and Seff Hellin-just felt like useless filler to kill time and paper. I honestly have no clear idea of where this series is going, since the premise isn't being followed so closely, so I dont know where this series will take us. I enjoyed this book, but it needed more substance and a more solid direction. In general, it need an overall theme and concept to follow. Hopefully, the other novels will begin to point in a solid and clear direction.

This book is the beginning of a new series of Star Wars books set 43 years after Episode IV: A New Hope (the original 1977 movie). It starts off slow, with the intergalactic government known as the Galactic Alliance forcing Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker into exile. Blaming Luke for failing to prevent Jacen Solo's slide into the dark side and into the role of Darth Caedus before his death in the last Star Wars series. Unlike the starting book in the previous series, there are no large, set piece space battles or epic lightsaber duels. What Allston (and his two colleagues who will write other books in the series) seems to be doing is slowly building up the tension towards a dramatic conclusion at the end of the series. The authors also seem to be laying out all the arguments that others (like author Karen Traviss) have for not trusting the Jedi with such a great deal of authority in the galaxy. Hopefully they will be able to put to rest, once and for all, the argument that the Jedi shouldn't be trusted. Though it's a great start for a series, I feel like more could have been done. At the very least, Allston could have gone farther with the Kessel storyline or the Jedi Sef Hellin plot. Ultimately, I don't know where this is going, but it looks like the authors are going to take us for a great ride.

A solid start to the new series. Allston makes it an easy read. While it starts several good plot lines, it was not quite as interesting or exciting as the launchs for the New Jedi Order or Legacy of the Force. The book leaves you ready to hear more and optimistic for what follows. I am especially interested in how the relationship between Luke and Ben will develop.

Fast paced storyline with the occasional dollop of humor. One of the best of the latter Star Wars books.

Star Wars = automatic favorite. But this is quite a good read even without that. Following the events of the Legacy Of The Force series, the Galactic Alliance comes after the Jedi--Luke in particular--for failing to prevent the rise of Darth Caedus. Luke is exiled from Coruscant and embarks on a journey to try adn uncover exactly what led to Jacen's fall. Also, the Jedi try to handle two of their number who suddenly think that everyone around them has been replaced by cunning imposters. Another awesome entry into the Star Wars Universe...

I still don't know if I like this particular storyline or not. I need to let it rest a bit.

I mean, seriously... the fate of the Jedi/Luke's freedom rests on what the hell whiny boy was doing on his little silly 5-year sabbatical? I know that Luke has nothing else to do, but, still... you'd think they would come up with a better adventure for him and Ben for these nine books.

I just hope that this plotline doesn't become the center; I think the point of Daala and the Republic not sure about wanting to keep the Jedi around/trying to enforce strictures on them should be the main focus. As much as I like Luke and Ben, I'm not sure I could stomach eight books of them wandering the galaxy trying to figure out what Jacen was up to when he disappeared.

Along with that, is the whole Valin/Seff thing... It's just... I dunno, far fetched to me. Especially that they think it has to do with Jacen. If it did, why didn't it show up until TWO YEARS AFTER? Blah.

I did enjoy getting some of the Rogues back to help on Kessel--I won't even talk about THAT plotline--but I wished Janson was there. But Wedge is pretty cool.

And Jag and Jaina are back together? Yay! I want more of that storyline, please.

Anyway, here's hoping that Omen is better. Not that Outcast was horrible... I just thought it was stretching a lot of things too far and getting unbelievable (which is saying something, coming from a make-believe universe...)
