This was a very interesting novel. You really feel for the Tucks; being immortal in this case definitely has its drawbacks. Overall, a good book.

My middle school English teacher gave me this one. She said I'd like it. She was right! I love the languange and way the story just flows. Natalie Babbitt certainly has a way with words. The beginning always pulls me right in every time I read it -- I can just feel the stillness of the August day that she starts right out to describe. It's a bittersweet story, and so very true: a very important book for all generations, and a wonderful read. (The movie's got nothing on this book, although I did enjoy the movie for the movie. The stoundtrack is nice, too.)

It is about an immortal family, the Tucks. They meet and befriend a girl named Winnie. The town's constable, who is looking for a promotion, goes out in search of Winnie with a man in a yellow suit. Upon finding her, he tries to take Winnie against her will, but is killed by Mae Tuck. Mae is caught and is supposed to be executed, but she is unable to be executed because she cannot die. Winnie saves Mae. The book skips to the preface, in which it is stated that Angus Tuck stood over Winnie's grave 70 years later............

Admittedly did NOT want to read this book at first. But, it surprised me. It dealt with some issues I didn't really think it would. The story brought me in and I began to like the characters and especially dislike the man in the yellow suit.

With so many reviews already for this book there is no real reason to do another.

A great book by Natalie Babbit. Presents the idea that everlasting life no matter how alluring it may be in the beginning is not always the best way to go as is apparent by the wisdom the Tuck family bestows on the young Winifred Foster. Although scared at first at being kidnapped she eventually warms up to the family and will do anything to help them keep their situation a secret.

Loved it.

A beautiful everlasting tale of a girl who runs away from home and comes across a family with an everlasting secret. She must eventually choose to live the same life, or a more adventurous one.

I like the whole questioning of the possiblity of immortality, but what I didn't particularly like is the lack of romance between winnie and jesse which is shown in the disney movie version. You can see the foundation for such a romance, but it was never expanded upon. As a reader, I liked the prose of this book. It is worth your time reading, so read it!!

A sweet, rather sad look at love and immortality. What if you had the choice to live forever with the one you loved? Would you take it? This is the choice Winnie Foster is faced with. The love between her and Jessse isn't particularly intriguing or passionate, but it has it's simple, placid charms that makes it work. And simply why it makes the ending so sad. I'm glad that Babbitt made Winnie chose the way she did, because I think it's much more realistic and makes for a waaay better story. For some reason, I always think of this versus Twilight, as the main character in that also faces the same decision as Winnie. Only Winnie is slightly more intelligent. Anyhow, it's a sad, charming little story and gives a kick into a kid's book that isn't often seen.
