I was fooled by "jewish Nabokov" - was not even close... I don't remeber if I even managed to read it all...

A great book. The characters are very well-developed and depicted and the writing style is very lucid. "Shosha" also explores some interesting philosophical ideas concerning the existence of God, the meaning of life, and human nature. The glimpse into 1930's Jewish society in Poland was also very informative.

I,ve finished it right now , it was beautiful & I like it a lot , it can tell you about the life of the Jewish community in Warsaw before the 2nd world war & their fears of Hitler , I felt their feelings . it talks on a person who was brought up in a religious Hassidic family but then he became almost an Agnostic , he married his childhood girlfriend after he met her after a long period & he was astonished how she remained as he left her " Naive in both body & mind " . the novel discuss Beliefs and the unknown power that rule the world & this philosophic discussions continues till the last phrase in the novel where they were sitting waiting for an answer .I love some words as : The time is as a book that its papers can be moved forwards only . The dead body is stronger than anyone as it does not feel afraid of anything . I was astonished how he refused the opportunity to go to USA twice while Warsaw was in a great danger in these times , he married a child & refuse many adult women & at last he said that he can feel sure that Shosha will not leave him & go with another man .
