critics say that this is a japanese version of "the catcher in the rhye" probably because it's about a troubled teenager and how strangely the protagonist deals with the series of circumstances. But with regards to the story, they're very different from each other. Of course, the style of Murakami is very evident including the symbolisms although this book was considered different from all his other novels, Murakami's unique story telling style echoes throughout the pages. this book is indeed very memorable like the Beatles' song of the sane name.

Unlike any other Huraki Murakami novel I've read so far and sadly I cannot say that I enjoyed it. Given that this is probably his most famous work, I'm feeling way off base here. However, I found not one likable character in the bunch and never really cared about what happens to them. Sigh... I still love all those other Murakami novels that are simply divine!

A really beautiful book. Could be a little slow paced for some, but Haruki Murakami writes an exquisite novel which is very touching, and yet somehow there is this incredible sense of poetry in it, that cant help but make you feel warm inside. My favorite quote is in the last paragraph- “Midori responded with a long, long silence- the silence of all the misty rain in the world falling on all the new mown lawns of the world.”
