So it was pretty good, but a little depressing. The concept was excellent, because people tend to lump in the survivors into one category, but this allowed the readers to see the individual impact of the gas attack. The accounts from Eiji's family members were pretty heart wrenching. Although the main purpose of the author was to focus on the survivors, I personally found the interviews with Aum members to be the most interesting.

I would recommend doing some research into the Tokyo gas attack before reading this book because I felt a little lost.

This isn't really a novel, but a collection of interviews of victims of terrorist attacks that occurred in the Tokyo Underground. As there is so little (literary) input from the author, I was a bit disappointed by it.

Stunning, stunning book. Murakami is a great interviewer and the book reads like a series of character studies all revolving around one horrible event. As the title hints, a revealing look into the Japanese Psyche.

A poignant collection of stories - those of former/current Aum members no less so than the victims of the Tokyo gas attacks. Still digesting...

I didn't know about Tokyo gas attack so much at that time it happened. The emotion and feeling of the victims left me strong impressions, so that I saw a bad dream at the night after I read. It takes courage to read again for me, but I love his non-fictions more than his fictions.
