Anyone who thinks they know the story of Robinson Crusoe needs to read this full unabridged version. It is no so much about a man marooned on a desert island as it is about a man struggling with the dilema of what is sin and what is reward and punishment.It is also a cracking adventure story and the 'boring bits' about what is going on in Robinson's mind are not boring at all but the key to the whole story. Absolutely brilliant. A final point, it does more to explain the mind set of europeans towards slavery at that time than all the academic papers put together.

Another childhood book I have very fond memories of. Read it again and was sligtly disappointed. It is a great adventure, but feels a bit dated.

A young man gets shipwrecked, all alone, on a deserted island. Though he is able to salvage quite a bit from the ship before it sinks completely, he is still left to try to survive in the wilderness without any human contact. This book is certainly marked by the time in which it was written, when ideas about slavery and philosophy were very different from our modern view. This may put off modern readers.
