A really good book with a very hard to guess ending. Not bad for the very first real detective mystery.

One of the most enjoyable books you'll ever read. Collins uses multiple narrators to tell the story of the Moonstone diamond, creating a slippery, Rashomon-like narrative that is unusual for Victorian literature. None of the narrators know the whole story, and almost none of them are reliable, making for an intriguing reading experience. Piecing together what really happened is just one of the many pleasures of this great book.

Good Victorian novel laced with some unexpectedly amusing narratives. Not really much of a twist at the end though.

Good, classic, light-hearted 19th century whodunnit with all the elements - references to the Hope Diamond and Britain's vast colonial empire, even the insertion of an exotic British officer cum adventurer in Central Asia. Also an interesting insight into the societal norms, pretentions and inhibitions of the day. Good holiday read.

When I first heard the reviews about this book I was thinking its much hyped....but after I finished with this book....I think it deserves every single rating.
