This book starts off slow, and just seems to move slower as you read. There is no hook to pull you into the story, its just a girl whining about not being able to become a spy.

gods are real, and fighting. spy's daughter gets kidnapped by pirates and sold all because a trickster god needs her. I love the crow, 4got his name tho... good book, great fantasy.

I really really liked this book. The main character, Aly, is the more laid-back heroine of all Pierce's other "driven" characters in her other novels, though i liked her no less then the others. The book is laced with wit and humor in a large tapestry of action, adventure, and prophecy. Intelligent and charming characters and a delicate and intriguing plot, how can you not love? 4 1/2 stars!
