I wasn't even aware these short stories existed. I liked it but they were so short. It was neat how it was put together, it had a map of Oxford and xeroxed notes,etc... but after the richness of His Dark Materials there just wasn't much to savor in this little bitty book.

Lyra's Oxford is a short story that continues, albeit briefly, Lyra's adventures. A map of Lyra's Oxford, a cruise brochure, and a postcard from Mary Malone are also included. In the introduction, Pullman writes that these items "...might be connected with the story, or they might not; they might be connected to stories that haven’t appeared yet. It's difficult to tell."

A witch's daemon named Ragi is being attacked by birds when he is rescued by Lyra and Pan. The daemon begs Lyra to take him to Sebastian Makepeace. Ragi's witch is dying and Makepeace is her only hope for a cure. However, Lyra encounters a danger she never imagined.

My only complaint is that this was way too short. I wanted more...

The book tells of a small story about Lyra after she became an adult.

A really good follow-up to the "His Dark Materials" books.

I did not get the point of this. The book is short. I mean, it is *really* short, I read it in a single take on my way to work. The story is less than spectacular and just feels like an afterthought to His Dark Materials (which was very flawed in itself but contained a number of intriguing ideas), something that you see at the movies every now and then when there is an extra scene after the end credits are over. The message felt worn out and flat. OK, the review is getting longer than the book itself. Ending my rant...

Absolutely outstanding. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I picked up this slim little volume, but I got much more than I could have hoped for. This is but a short story, one that I did my best to savour and read slowly, yet it is steeped in meaning, much of which I have yet to ponder fully. It's set 2 years after the events of "The Amber Spyglass", and Lyra Silvertongue as she is now known is a student at St. Sophia's, though she retains her little room at Jordan College. Whilst studying on the roof of Jordan, she and her daemon Pantaliamon encounter a witch's daemon, seeking help for his ailing witch. Their search sends them into the Jericho section of Oxford, seeking an alchemist named Makepeace.

Much less interesting than the trilogy. Just a little story.
