This was a good 70's love story even though Oliver and Jenny's relationship was sort of weird. I guess that's what makes it good! It's kind of nice to read a story that doesn't involve modern technology such as computers, cell phones, etc.

Lose your heart to the novel that defined a generation then...and now.Love StoryLove means never having to say you're sorry...He is Oliver Barrett IV, a rich jock from a stuffy WASP family on his way to a Harvard degree and a career in law.She is Jenny Cavilleri, a wisecracking, working-class beauty studying music at Radcliffe...........

LOVE STORY is the sappy page turner where we find out what love means never having to say. Made into a very good weepie movie in 1970 starring Ryan O'Neal, Ali MacGraw, Ray Miland and the film debut of Tommy Lee Jones; Erich Segal, the author of LOVE STORY, later said the characters played by Ryan O'Neal and Tommy Lee Jones were based on the actual lives of Tommy Lee Jones and his roommate, Al Gore -- I kid you not.

A nice book.. If you think you have ever interested in the love story than you must read this one. Not too big. A small book, but enough to pull the string of your heart. It has sad end which will make you cry if not, at least it will bring lump in your throat. Book describe the relation between a two person who are just 20 and fell in love. Sacrifice their career for each other. Finally........ Its an amazing..

What can you say about a 39 year old publishing phenomenon that still holds up today? Segal presents what must have even at the time been a cliche in straight-forward, lucid prose...and somehow manages to walk off with a winner. Much better, and less schmaltzy, than I expected it to be, given that it's the source of that loathesome tripe phrase "Love means never having to say you're sorry."

The cover says over 21 Million copies sold. I wonder what's so special or out of the block here.

Its a touching story agreed, but then isn't it too simple. I'm not saying I don't like it, but the hype that has been with this book is beyond my thinking.

A beautiful and brief love story. People in sweet pangs of love gonna make a connection with this one. Aaaah! I got maah answer, over 21 million copies, hey lovers come on.... its worth more than that number....
a definite read from maah point of view.

"Love means never ever having to say you're sorry", isn't this what it says....
Keep smiling

Loves and Hugs and Kisses!!!:)

If I really like a book, I will read it twice. But three times, four, five...just doesn't happen very often. I've read Love Story over and over, and it never loses that impression it made on me during my first reading.
You don't have to be as rich or as high-rolling as Oliver Barrett to understand what it means to love Jenny. Everyone has felt -- or has hoped to feel -- the way he does. That Segal was able to compress so much emotion into so few pages is the ultimate feat.

And every time I read Love Story, I find myself praying it will have a different ending, no matter what it says in those first few paragraphs.

This little book is so powerful. It is a good reminder of why we live and why we love.

The captivating portrayal of love and loss leaves you spellbound.

Many of my friends and my sister had recommended to me ‘Love Story’ by Erich Segal . I was not very sure, as I always thought this to be one of those Mills & Boons stuff. Somehow I got my friend’s copy of the novel yesterday and decided to read it. It is a small book of 127 pages and I thought I will finish it in a matter of 2-3 days if the novel was as good as they claim it to be. But to my surprise, I ended up reading the novel in one sitting, well past into midnight. By now you know where this review is headed to – the novel didn’t get its reputation just like that. Its an amazing novel.

To start with, the story is simple, and has a likeness to some of our Indian movies. The story is about the rich Harvard guy Oliver and the poor Italian-American Jennifer. Rich guy meets poor girl, status barrier, getting married against parents’ wishes and so on. But what makes you turn those pages, is the narration. The novel is written in first person, with the male lead, Oliver, telling us the story. The 127 pages are packed with all the stuff, the story, the emotions and you also get the detailed characterizations of the main characters. You don’t have too many characters to remember, the bare essential stay through the novel. Unlike the usual sugary romance novels, the dialogues have a comic tone to them at times making it a pleasant read. But of course, the surge of emotions is reserved for the last part. I am not going to reveal anything more of the plot, but then most of the readers would know it by now as this book was first published in the 1970s.

If you haven’t read this novel till now, I would recommend you go for it now. Its one love story you should not miss, because you are going to love it !

What can you say about a twenty-five-year-old girl who died?
That she was beautiful. And brilliant. That she loved Mozart and Bach. And the Beatles. And me.
Started reading the book after few pages not able to connect, skimmed through half of the book, more precisely till the moment they got married and after that I just got engross into Love Story of Jennifer Cavilleri and Oliver Barrett, near end of the book I was so filled with emotions that last two pages I read with watery eyes.
Does such love exist?

I read this book on my flight from Dubai to New York. This was perhaps the first time I was reading a love story written in English. It took me sometime to connect to the characters and once I was connected, I had this great feel good feeling with me while I was reading the book. I really liked the fact that the characters were made to look so ordinary and they don't do anything crazy or melodramatic for love. They were so realistic and believable. The book made me cry towards its end. My eyes are wet the moment I think about three characters from the book, the guy, the girl and the girl's father. Its a great reading for the emotionally inclined.

"The most moving bestseller of the century"---it says on the cover...but hafta say that doesn't even begin to cover it!!! Short, smart, witty & heart warmingly honest Erich Segal's masterpiece is everything a romance ought to be!!! It's hard to find words that can aptly ...describe the character of the protagonists especially Jenny...suffice to say she is more than a character from my favourite book, she's a way of life :))) The tragic end is a bit of a cliche yes but then again we all know any love story worth its salt has to be tragic or else it runs the risk of being pooh-poohed away as being merely a child's bedtime fairytale :D

love stories are enchanting always , more so if preempted by fate. As were of Romeo and Juliet , Our own Desis Heer and Ranjha, and the other inneumerable ones. So is this Oliver, Jenny saga. Oliver in his various attempts to act as a non conformist towards his family marries his poor but forthright girl friend Jenny . But as fate designed it he cannot hold on to this only pillar of his life for to long!!!What impresses the most in book is the relationship of Ol and Jen. More than a couple they are friends.Jenny doesn't have to behave coy and feminine to attract Oliver and Oliver too is comfortable being supported by his super confident girl friend . A relationship which every woman and perhaps man too shall desire to experience

"Love Story" by Eric Segal is a truly romantic and funny yet tragic story. If I really like a book, I will read it twice. But three times, four, five...just doesn't happen very often. I've read Love Story over and over, and it never loses that impression it made on me during my first reading. It is the story of 2 young college grads, who's love was stronger then any of the tests life threw at them. It's a moving story, and if you have a hankering for a real romance, you want to laugh and cry, and have never read this one before, you should go for it. In its own way, this little book is so touchingly powerful. It is a good reminder of why we live and why we love.
