This book continues the story of the pending onslaught from the army in Novindus. I think Raymond is a master at creating tension and setting up the stage. Unfortunately, in this installment he has failed to deliver. Perhaps his build-up to this final confrontation was too much; perhaps we as readers expect too much, given the success of his previous books. Whatever the reason, I finished this book with a feeling of disappointment. I would have enjoyed this book much more if Feist spent sometime to keep us in the final confrontation, keep us in the final battle. In scenes such as these, I would have to say Salvatore does a much better job.Finally, (warning: spoiler!!!): I have a personal issue with Nakor and the discussion about gods and the meaning of life. This section was a little too philosophical for me, especially in that section of the book (e.g. the invasion of the Novindus army).

this is book 3 out of the Surpent war ones, its brill loads more emotion and war and the book gets more done than from the last one, its sad to see old friends move on within but since the first book, about 100 years is almost up so its bound to happen, but i really advise any one to read the set, if not the whole collection starting at magician, (which apart from the Darkness at seth.) maybe the best one still! enjoy. good read, keeps you gripped

I have just read all of his books - yes from book 1 - where it all started with good old pug etc. and I love his style of writing. trouble is now that I have read all is that I have to wait until he writes some more!!
